Beneath his ceremonial face plate, Praetor Kharmon Cimex grimaced. The whipping desert winds brought with them the stench of the news that the destroyer legionnaires had met their marks in the wreckage of the downed frigate. Cimex's visage contorted once more, as he recalled his days among their ranks. The nausea of the rad-weapons, the hot wetness of bruises spreading under the skin in the midst of a chem-purge, the scalding of plasma and the sizzle of volkite, the freezing chill of a void-to-ship breaching, the-
Jump-packs roared close overhead. Cimex returned to the field. With the frigate downed mid-orbit, it was time for the real brunt of the operation to begin. One hand clutching the axe he had pried triumphantly from the hands of a slain, defiant xeno in the glory days of the crusade, the other, clad in a black gauntlet, a reminder of his infamy as a destroyer, his fingers danced over combat-stim controls. Swiftly overriding the clunky limiters, Cimex felt his chest swell, as oxygen flooded his system, blood vessels dilating to tremendous sizes to account for the truly dreadful dosage of battle-drugs Cimex had become habituated with.
Blood roared in his ears. The jets of his jump pack began to howl into life. His jaw clenched, muscles writhing and contorting with the stress of the chemicals entering his abhuman body, and with anticipation of the carnage that the survivors of the crash would be met surly be met with animating the tattered remains of his once-beautiful visage. Scenes whipped into the corners of his vision, dancing among sparks and stars. The time before he took the helm of desolation, before the curse of his legion began to gnaw at his body, at the geneseed planted deep within him, before tumors and noxious chemicals, hyperaging and atrophy turned him into a genetic caricature of the primarch, his bare face a disgrace to the legion.
Clicking on comms, Cimex let forth a blood-curdling war-whoop, signalling to the rest of his squad, lifted once more, like the Twirling Bhairab Naach Birds of Arbaro IX, on his jump-pack into the sky, before the giddying drop below, to once more spill the blood of those he had once called 'brothers'.

Tried out a 30k marine! Only a matter of time, I suppose. I had a lot of fun messing about with this mini - when I had a chance about 3 years ago now, to grab him for a decent price, I couldn't turn down that gorgeous blanche-esq helm. Something very Dark Souls about it, too, which presses exactly the right kind of buttons for me. TBH, he's been through a few iterations. Though I'd always planned for him to be an Emperor's Children marine, I was never sure about what do with him, beyond keeping the axe. In the end, I managed to cobble together a Mk. iii arm out of some leftover bits, and then by luck, managed to get some of the older Raptor jump packs, which suited him down to the ground imo. With that in mind, and his masked face, my imagination began to flow as I envisaged him being a real old dog of war for the legion (do I have too much of a thing for old dogs of war?), wracked by shame as the flaws of the legion's geneseed made themselves manifest in his body. That said, he's carrying a few trophies, like his fancy axe (added a nice chaos-y spike to the end to make it more of a power halberd) and zebra-print loincloth (slaneshii enough?). I thought it would be fitting for those suffering these effects to be sent to join the destroyers, hence the black arm, as a reference to his older days.

I want to make a whole smaller army for 30k, but...

...not at the price they charge for minis out here. With that said, I guess this is both the start and the end of my foray into 30k!
Thanks for dropping by! I'd love to hear what you think!

I could not get into 30k me self.
Therefor approve of thee foray!

Conversion epic as usual, painting damn solid.
Thanks for cinematic into, quite immersive! Love it!

If you would have the praetorian stand alone, for now, then! perhaps a small terrain piece with interesting backdrop to serve as oversized scenic base?
"Scenic base" that does not raise the model in height, but more around the model, to immerse character in the environment.
A bit of a TableTopAble diorama, that looks cool and can be played with.

Thanks for the kind words, Mothsniper! 30k is a bit of a tricky one - tbh I find a lot of the legions more interesting after the Heresy, but I really like the look of Heresy-era Emperor's Children, and I like the idea of them having a hidden, crippling flaw behind the facade of perfection.

The scenic base is an interesting thought! Never really tried my hand at diorama stuff though! I'll have a think!

Ah, yep, that is juicy!

on the "diorama" base I was thinking of what I did with my SSU heavy weapon teams.
just a base, but with more environment than usual
