My friend told me his Shroudspsalm canticle gave him army wide cover. So we played that his admech vehicles were running around in the open with a 2+ save. But after thinking about it.

The Canticle says:

"Affected units gain the bonus to their saving throw as if they were in cover. Units already in cover are unaffected"

In 9th edition, vehicles cannot gain a cover save. (I only just remembered this). So, doesn't this mean that this canticle only grants a cover save to ad mech's infantry and not its vehicles ? Because cover saves can only be granted to infantry and beasts.

You are incorrect. You are conflating the rules for Obstacles and Area Terrain with the rules for Light Cover. See the Rare Rules section of the rulebook for details.

Where does it say anything even remotely close to this? Light Cover affects any model, and the Rare Rules section clearly states what happens if something just "grants cover".

Can you elaborate? So vehicles can get a cover save?

Hmm, did I get this wrong? Let me go and check again what that canticle says. or are you referring to cover save?

I mean the cover save. BRB, page 263 for Light Cover.

You're probably thinking of the Area Terrain rules.

So if vehicles cannot benefit from area terrain to get light cover, then how can they get a so called light cover save ? I mean, I thought they removed defensive positions in 9th edition for a reason...

I need to a) Sleep more and b) Read this rulebook more.

"that model is assumed to be entirely on or within a terrain feature with the Light Cover terrain trait". My brain just totally skipped over the area terrain part.

Or... wait.

"Terrain feature" is not the same as "area terrain".

I am so confused right now.

I think from the strictest reading, the Rare Rules appendix says "that model is assumed to be entirely on or within a terrain feature with the Light Cover terrain trait", but the terrain feature it is on is not "area terrain", so any model will benefit from the Light Cover.

huh? I am confused now... so vehicles can actually somehow gain a light cover save by being on a terrain feature?

Ok, let's take it from the top.

Vehicle on Area Terrain that is Light Cover: Does not benefit, because Area Terrain explicitly only benefits INFANTRY, SWARM, and BEAST. Page 261.

Vehicle that is getting "the benefit of cover" from some other rule: Gets the bonus from Light Cover. Rare Rules Appendix, Page 360

They can't ever get cover from ACTUAL terrain, but rules that grant cover will benefit vehicles.

I have to imagine that vehicles not getting cover from terrain is a massive oversight in the rules.

I don't know... is it? They've gotten massive boosts in other areas (being able to shoot in combat for example). They need some kind of downside or else they'll end up dominating.
