I am looking for suggestions for small army lists that could be used in a beginner game of Orks vs Eldar. Ideally, they would be evenly matched, but would emphasize fun over competition. I have played as Eldar a handful of times, but it has been about five years since I last played (using 7th edition). The other player has never played, but is set on playing as Orks.

I don't have a specific point value in mind, but am looking for something equivalent to a beginner box. Does anyone have any suggestions, even if it's just a good HQ matchup (I can add in a couple of troop units)?

I appreciate any advice.

Orks and Eldar are probably a pretty solid matchup currently. I would recommend the orks get some boyz, some bikers, killa kanz or deffcoptas, and the Eldar get some Dire Avengers for troops, a war walker or vyper as a light vehicle, and a couple aspects like Striking Scorpions, maybe Dark Reapers. A Wraithlord vs a Deff Dread also could be a fun matchup. Definitely a Farseer and a Warboss for HQ's.

What you want to avoid is the Eldar having tons of long range firepower or super-mobility, or the Orks having everything buttoned up in transports or on bikes making the units like Dire avengers just totally useless. The Eldar should be slightly faster, and have a few fire support units.

Something like: Eldar Patrol Detachment

HQ: Farseer 115. Guide and Fortune.

Troops: Dire Avengers x5 65, Shield and Glaive Exarch 5
Troops: Guardians X10 100, Shuriken Cannon Platform 10

Elites: Striking Scorpions x5 65, Biting Blade 5

Fast: Vyper 40, Bright Lance 20

Heavy: Wraithlord 100, Starcannons x2 30

505pts.

Ork Patrol Detachment

HQ: Warboss 70 Killsaw 10, Attack Squig 0, Kombi-Rokkit 10

Troops: Boyz x10 80, Shootas
Troops: Boyz x20 160, Sluggas+Choppas, Choppa Nob

Fast: Kustom Boosta-Blasta 90

Heavy: Deff Dread with 2x Rokkits 90
505pts

You've got the KBB which is honestly just a really fun piece to pilot what with the 6-shot cannon, the mobility, and the flamer exhausts, you've got a larger scary blob of orks (that you could just run as a single unit honestly if that's more fun, orks as a gigantic mob are great fun) and you've got each army having a few 'exciting' antitank weapons with the potential for big damage on a lucky hit, but nothing like Fire Dragons or Tankbustas that would probably feel like a letdown just one-shotting the big piece from either army super easily.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

This looks like a good starting point. Thank you for your input!
