How do!

So here’s a thread I don’t recall seeing before in all my years spelunking the Interwebs.

And it’s pretty straight forward. See how GW have redesigned Space Marines with the Primaris project? And how at least one of the aims appears to have been a rescaling, so they fit the background in terms of stature? This is your chance to pitch how you would do the same for the range of your choice.

And if you fancy adding rules preferences (basic stats, or unit abilities)? Go wild, I’m not gonna complain.

This is mostly brought to you by the following artwork. In which what I assume to be a Hive Tyrant looks flipping and impressively huge. It’s from a WarCom article on Necron Characters.

OK folks....go wild.

With Primaris marines changing in height/stats, I guess I would feel it's no longer as necessary now, but I've always felt the scaling for IG should have been closer to the FW DKoK range, where they don't feel as oversized as the current Cadian and Catachan models do. More importantly, I would redo the core plastic range for Guard entirely. Introduce new rescaled Cadians and Catachans with all the weapons options besides just flamers and grenade launchers, and introduce a greatcoat option that effectively lets you do your own take on the Armageddon Steel Legion, DKoK or Valhallans. That would actually incentivize me to consider Guard over what I see now, where you basically need to go for 3rd party sculpts to have viable alternatives to football helmets and misshapen rambo vets.

I basically agree with this. Guard basic infantry (and to a lesser extent tactical marines) is now what stands out as out of scale. They should have new plastics in the same scale as Skitarii and GSC Neophytes. As we've seen with those models, that size can still hold a ton of awesome detail with modern plastics. This would also create some unbelievably awesome kitbash possibilities.

As for large monster type models and vehicles, I currently don't have a problem with GW's habit of having an unofficial sliding scale. By that, I mean realistically a lot of the monsters and vehicles are too small compared to infantry, but I'm OK with it because this makes them easier to use as gaming pieces.

I think that a Missile Launcher's range should be resized from 48" to 72". Why? It's laughable that a missile should only have twice the range of a Space Marines basic gun.

This may not be the most entertaining answer, but I'm a fan of how they did this with the CSM and Havoc models. No fancy back story, some very simple new rules (just a few - not an entire codex worth) and release them.

When they released those kits and everyone saw how much bigger the marines had gotten, no one was upset, no one demanded a backstory for why, and the reception was really good imo.

I'm not sure it needs to be over-complicated.

Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

Can I vote for resizing the fluff instead? I want there to be at least a couple hundred thousand Necron Warriors on a tomb world and for them to be no more than 180cm tall. Warriors being 240cm tall does not make sense because they used to be worthless peasants before bio-transference and it clashes with the "their number is legion" aesthetic that I think they should fit. The models are all over the place, but whatever size is 180cm in game terms is how tall I want Warriors to be.

If this means that I get mini-crons the size of Guardsmen when hunched over, I am fine with it. If this means they are larger than SM because SM are undersized, I am fine with it. I mostly care about them being crazy behemoths in the lore. My friend is 210cm tall and that's already pretty beast, I just find it silly to imagine hundreds of thousands of robots that make him seem like a dwarf in the same way he does me.

Personally, I feel like GW absolutely NAILED the scaling on the Vostroyan Firstborn line. The models don't feel quite as chunky/bulked as the Cadian or Catachan plastics.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, the Mordian, Tallarn, Valhallan and Steel Legion all feel just a little stunted to me size wise. I'll add, It's not terrible, and I prefer their slightly smaller stature to the Cadian and Catachan plastics personally, but that's more due to the age of those sculpts truthfully.

I'll also note that some of the Catachan sculpts are actually really nice. The Catachan Command box for example is extremely well done scale wise in my opinion. Another set of minis that were done in scale moderately well in my opinion are the Tempestus Scions, though they are a tad big like their Cadian older brothers.

I'd love to see a scale pass done for Orks, personally. I feel like they hold up well enough for the most part with the rank and file boyz, and grots/gretchin especially. More than scale, I'd just like to see a lot of the older plastics addressed and sprues re-done to be more efficient, or previously only metal-now-fine(fail)cast be finally given plastic kits a-la the recently re-done howling banshees.

Just my .02.

Take it easy.

I don't have a cadian to compare but a regular krieg is taller than a metal sm scout complete with giant clown shoes. The only ones that seem appropriately sized are the hq squad members, who are for some reason shorter and have much smaller hands/feet than any other gw humans i have.

I just want the vehicles to be bigger, just give me a scaled up rhino or landraider. Even the spartan is too small.

Big vehicles create objective problems in that they allow you to completely cover an entire objective with no way for the opponent to get to it short of destroying the tank in melee and then hoping your pile-in goes in the right direction. It seems like GW has always had a tacit policy of making vehicles smaller than they should be for practical considerations.

I'd be quite happy to see the old-school Tyranid "big bads" get bigger. The Hive Tyrant, the Carnifex, the Lictor... not everything though - we don't really need Gaunts or Genestealers getting huge, now, do we

I'd also quite like to see some new Eldar (wouldn't we all?) that are more lithe and wiry like the plastic Harlequins, though perhaps with less animated poses. As it stands, a lot of the old Eldar models have proportions that I reckon the Guard and other ordinary humans should now have instead. Let's make the Eldar a bit more obviously "alien".

Actually, I think gaunts should be scaled down - the RT picture of them makes them look absolutely spindly. They probably couldn't do it with plastics back then, but I think now they could capture the "gaunt" look of the race easily.

I’d like new Skitarii-scaled Guard, but I like the Cadians. Nothing fancy, just a solid workhorse of a kit.

See that stuff above? Completely true. All of it, every single word. Stands to reason.

Orks...

Their entire range. For a race that is so focused on "Bigger is better", most of their elite troops are now smaller than the Primaris. Nobz should be the same size as a Primaris Marine and Warbosses should dwarf them.

Grukk is currently the largest Warboss we have (not counting Ghazghkull) and he is still smaller than Primaris.

Why do they even have to be on human scale in the first place? They're aliens.

In general, I would prefer to keep things a bit smaller because the sizes are really getting out of hand in some regards. But then again, I'm also one of those people who don't like the Bigger is Best thing and would very much have liked people like Bobby G being the size of a Space Marine. The same goes for Custodes. Of course, they can be bigger than Guardsmen, which makes Primaris a good size.

Other than that, if I could resize a range completely it would be Eldar (all kinds), and specifically to make them all more lithe and less clunky.

I like to think that there is no single common scale for different faction models, and if there is then GW did some errors making regular humans like IG or SoB models. SoS are the proper size for a human female, but SoB are dwarfing models in termintor armour.

Primaris seemed to have been proper sized initialy, but now when compared to something like a new necron or SoB model, they don't seem to be primaris sized, but just normal marine sized.

But the size and model looks of opposing factions don't bother me, so as long as GW doesn't do something crazy with my guys, I don't really care that much.
