Hi folks,

some TIme has past, since the Last Time we had any new Teaser.

Do you thing the still work on it or did Corona only delayed the Project? - If they still Work on it - do you think it will be release before 2023?

Its probably not a priority and likely just being worked on now and again - although I guess if some people are working from home and they get into to it more might be done.

This Won’t be here long, but..

When they said three or more years away or whatever, that’s what they meant (I don’t know why back then some people thought it’d come in a year instead etc).

Although I do think it’s being worked on with a dedicated (if small) group.
But there’s a lot to do, and it won’t necessarily always be something they can show, or want to,

For what it’s worth, I spoke to a GW store employee and he mentioned a theory about what GW could do.

A new system that is not WFB but similar and set in a specific era in the history of the Old World. For example, the time around the events of Mordheim, where the Empire is feuding amongst itself.

Most of those store employees don't know their ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to development.

Looking for dice from the new AOS boxed set and Dark Imperium on the cheap. Let me know if you can help.

Most GW store staff are basically not much more informed than customers. Often as not because its their work they aren't hounding the internet for rumours and thus can be less well informed than gamers when things like the shipping manifesto show far in advance releases.

Back in the days when GW wasn't doing any real marketing and was avoiding the internet for the most part; the GW staff got very little heads-up on some bigger releases coming.

They can sometimes have more awareness on things because they've been part of the system for so long. So they have a mature gamers viewpoint in general (if they've been around for a while of course).

GW probably don't have much to even show off. People have said this elsewhere but it's worth repeating that the announcement was more than likely just done to hurt the momentum behind Kings of War 3rd edition, which was """coincidentally""" releasing at that time, as well as other rank-and-file systems gaining steam. GW pretty much never reveal their plans or releases literally years in advance and hell, they've said they don't like showing stuff off that's anymore than a quarter of a year away tops (obviously Covid made 'em flaunt this, but everything was still within a six month period).

Don't expect much more than a few articles in a year tops and maybe a ramp up in the last year or so (like Sisters).

Yep right now the project will very likely be in a stage where they are still developing ideas and dumping them. So what they'd say they had as a great idea today might be gone by tomorrow; brought back by the weekend and then changed by next month etc... It's not a good time to market much because so little is nailed down. Marketing now could set people up with anticipations that are lost by the time of release

If GW don't want to lose the IP rights to something they have to publish something for it every 10 years or so I think, so yeah, WHFB will be back eventually.

Well they could just keep publishing Warhammer Chronicles stories. Or if it has to be the same product a simple "legacy reprint" edition or such of a few models would suffice. They don't have to make an entirely new fully featured game. Heck a boxed set would suffice.

Besides even if they lost it chances are its wrapped up with loads of other copyright and IP rules and laws and components. So you might get to steal the name, but you wouldn't own it (GW could still use it) and you'd have so many missing components. Plus after 10 years or so the market will have moved on considerably. Not that recovery would be possible, but I'd wager that since the 35mm fantasy wargame market already has competition, you'd be hard pressed to make it work. Esp if AOS keeps growing in popularity.

No, not with their own IP
this is just a thing if you have an IP license and don't use it that it expires and you need a new one
(this is the case for the Lord of the Rings game)

in this case it is much more simple, GW is aware of what is going on at the market and they don't want the competition to grow
therefore they release products outside their main games even if it is something they were not considering worth doing before

Blood Bowl, Necromunda, AT, AI, Kill Team were not done because GW saw the big money behind it but it was a market taken over by other companies and GW wanted to step in before it was too late (that there is no Battlefleet Gothic is because there is no big Space Battle Game at the moment and we might see something after Firestorm Armada returns)

this is also a reason why Mantic now keeps their stuff closed and does not announce new games during Alpha or early Beta, they don't want to give GW the change to be prepared
a reason why GW had nothing more to show than a Square Base, a Map and Concept Arts to distract costumers from KoW and also won't be able to bring Man O War back in time to compete with KoW Armada

Unless UK/EU laws are really different that's not quite true. In order to hold onto a trademark, yes they have to make a product called Warhammer every few years. But with Warhammer AoS, Warhammer 40k, Warhammer stories, Warhammer books no one would really try and claim Warhammer Fantasy Battles.

GW might be in jeaprody of losing names like Empire, High Elves etc but the whole point of AoS was to get away from names like that which can't really be claimed.

Other games like Space Crusade might be in danger of being lost, but I think Warhammer is pretty safe.

If this is a “just hold on to the IP” thing, surely they’d just reprint the older rule books.

Reprint the old rule book and release a character set of leaders. One or two named characters and then "You can use these models with your Age of Sigmar models to represent battles from the Old World.

Heck they could do a duel starter set with Skaven and Lizardmen and not have to do anything but the rules as both those armies are pretty much complete from their Old World days.

They wouldn't even have to release new models. Just put a made to order down for the old model releases. And then they can rake it in. I'd love the option of buying fantasy new on sprue rather than used crap from various sellers.

So, I still collect, paint, and play WFB. Most of the time I play 8th edition, although I have played quite a bit of 9th Age and I have the books and rules to play any edition after 3rd. That being said, GW can take their time and do it right. Bringing back the Old World is going to involve a ton of new models. There are also likely to be other game editions/releases before the Old World comes back. We just saw the 9th edition of 40K drop and I would bet that the 3rd edition of Age of Sigmar will probably come out next summer.

It all comes down to this: Just be patient. In the meantime, paint and play older editions of WFB. Read/listen to Black Library stories of The Old World. Find and pick up used copies of WFB books and encourage others to play. The game is still amazing! There’s a ton of pics and traffic on Facebook with dedicated sites to WFB and The Old World.
