So it's been awhile, but according to chapter approved it says Heldrakes are 130pts excluding wargear. If I wanted a Baleflamer, I would have to pay for the Autocannon to be eligible to make that swap....bringing the points cost to 175pts. Am I correct in assuming is how it works?

You have to pay for weapon options, if they have a cost. You pay for the weapons that are on the unit.

If my online resources are correct, your Helldrake is:


X points per model before Gear.

Y Points for an Autocannon it normally comes with, and
Z points for the claws it automatically comes with.

You may trade a Baleflamer (costing ABC Points) for the Autocannon. That means you pay X points for the Model, ABC points for the Baleflamer, and Z points for the claws.

So your normal cost per model is (X Points + Y points, + Z points)

If you trade for the Baleflamer, your cost is (X Points + ABC Points, + Z points) You do not have to pay Y points for the Autocannon that is no longer on the model.

To summarise, the final points cost of a model is the Base Cost + the cost of any wargear it actually has. You don't pay for wargear you lost during a swap.

Perhaps I just had it mixed up from a previous edition. Thankfully it hasn't been an issue in the games I've played of 9th so far. Thanks for the clarification everyone

Unless you swap for a relic. The Relic is the points cost of what it swapped for, plus any cost for the relic (i.e. CP for a second and beyond Relic)
