I saw this picture on the internet today for the first time. Is this real 40k art or is it fan art? I've never heard of Custodes on lions whether in HH or 40k but admittedly I've been out of the loop regarding both rules and fiction for a few years at this point. A web search (my google fu is admittedly middling!) didn't reveal anything other than the pic itself again and a search for Lions on the wiki didn't either. Is this a thing now? It's cool regardless but I figured I'd ask.

No, it's fan art (by Hammk).

Thanks for the info and the link too! He's got alot of great art there. I wouldn't mind if GW "borrowed" the idea. Also, this pic is pretty epic as well.

Hammk's concept art is excellent. Not only in its sketchy painterly quality and use of colours, but also because the concepts are all fit and fine for 40k duty. Embrace it just as if it had been released by GW, is my advice.

Only as allies.

Knights are pretty low-tech and Martian for Custodes' Terran technology base.

Also I am pretty sure that's a Telemon, not a knight. Just my thoughts?

Naw looks too turtley to be a Telemon. Custodes have much more defined features.

that thing has guns on top of the shoulders, and i dont see a Spiculus bolt launcher that should be above the head were that big golden plate is. it looks like a Knight Castellan, but gold.

yhea, but only as allies, same as the SOB or other imperial factions.

To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be relearned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.

It looks like the gun is loosely based on the design of the Knight Preceptor's las impulsor.

Someone posed a 3d model based on the original art above and I might turn the lion into a thunderwolf style mount for my custom Winged Hussar chapter.

Way too tall(just look at custodians running below it) to be telemon

Judging that no one has ever shown a Telemon in the fluff, we don't know anything about the size comparrison. Table top is not a good example. Right now Primaris are the same size as Custodes, and guardsmen are slightly smaller than mark 7 Old Boys. Orks should be roughly twice the size as guardsmen, and so should Marines. Primaris should be close to but smaller then Custodes, and Custodes should be just shorter than a Ven Dreadnaught (3.7 meters)

Could just be venerable one (because whoever was to be interred didn't like garbage, terribad FW custode design and asked for an upgrade). It's not like it's that different, it's about the same level of difference as between regular contemptor and thousand son/iron warrior one.

OK - Fezzik, man, put down whatever you're smoking and never go back to it.

An Ork should probably have significantly more bulk than a Guardsman, but your average Boy isn't twice the size of one. A Proper Marine is, on average about a foot to eighteen inches taller than a Guardsman, but will also be generally bulkier even without the armour.

I don't think the Steroid Boys have been described as being too much bigger than Proper Marines in-universe, and a Custodes is in a similar bracket (though arguably of a higher quality than either the Steroid Boys or Proper Marines - artisan quality rather than production line, if you will).

There is no way in hell that any of what you've just listed should be over 3m tall, let along 3.7m - that's between 10 and 11 feet. Bear in mind that an out-of-armour Custodes needs to be able to pass without too much notice amongst normal Imperial citizens, or the role some of them take as spymasters wouldn't work at all.
