I've come to be really indecisive when it comes to games recently, mostly rpgs, I've played and enjoyed so many playstyles it makes choosing one hard, and I always have to restart to do another. One RPG I've really enjoyed I've only beaten once but started a character at least 100+ times. If any of you have had this problem and know ways around it, help is appreciated.

Sometimes, the initial phase of an RPG is the most fun, be it character creation or the initial missions you play.

I have hundreds of hours in Skyrim and I've only finished the campaign once. The rest of my time has been spent exploring or doing side quests.

I personally wouldn't call it a problem, RPGs generally have loads of builds or roles you can play as and it's rewarding to try them all!

RPG games have a scaling situation whereby the start phase is very dynamic. You're getting new skills fairly quickly which changes how you play; plus you're often discovering new things and hints and getting used to the game.

Mid to late game the advance slows down and you start settling into your ways of battle. New levels take longer to reach and often as not new skills might stop appearing or slow down even more. So now you've got a lot more repetition in battles.

Story wise the start is also often a discovery phase, whilst the end, is, agian often a case of you knowing what's going to happen and chasing down the end clause.

I'm like you in that often the start is the msot fun and that I can lack dedication to complete an RPG game. That's not a problem unless you make it so and want to finish. Then you have to either make a choice to push through and force yourself or not. Sometimes a little self discipline is important in a hobby. It can let us get over a less exciting/trickier/more complex phase and push on toward a further phase of different rewards.

Other times when I find I can't find a game I want to play its perhaps because
1) I want to play one specific game that I cannot play for whatever reason (don't own it; can't run it; disk/game is no longer sold; etc...)

2) I'm bored with games and don't "really" want to play one.

Either way sometimes its a sign that its time to break the indecision by doing something different. This might be a new hobby; restarting or resuming a different one; or even something else entirely. Sometimes a nice walk will clear your head.

Interesting because xcom, total war, games like those 2 and some turn based strategy games have this same late game boredom feature where the game starts to drag. In xcom the early to mid game is very important and missteps at this time can be costly if not campaign ending on harder difficulties on ironman mode. However late game most research is done and decisions and their effects and consequences mean much less. It's more just trying to trudge through to the end which actually is a bit important how you play in xcom but probably less so in total war where you just want the game to finally end.
