Has anyone tried printing popular wargaming figs at non-standard scales? The closest I've come is test printing primaris at true 25mm scale to fit them on 25mm bases but I've always been curious about trying a 40k "pocket scale" game with things at 15mm or less. In decades past, this was only possible using the much smaller epic scale figs but now with home 3d printing it's actually doable on a gaks and giggles budget. Has anyone tried something similar with wargaming not necessarily with GW but any genre? Kill Team at 54mm Inquisitor scale? Epic at 40k scale? etc.

I haven't started yet, but I am planning on printing a bunch of 28mm scale tanks at about 10mm scale for some Horizon Wars fun. The issue with infantry I guess will be any already fine details will just be lost. When browsing thingiverse the 6mm and 15mm stuff is pretty obvious from the 28mm and larger stuff just from the chunkier details.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Yeah, there is definitely detail lost and things that need obvious thickening. I think for the most part going from 40k 32mm scale to 15mm should be easy enough to do with some simple XY plane thickening in basic programs but definitely not down to epic. At 10mm, you're probably better off enlarging 6mm models or shrinking 15mm ones (if available) depending on how big the vehicles are.

Any good sculpt should already push the limit of detail possible at its intended scale, so downscaling will usually be quite problematic from a technical standpoint. And upscaling, of course, will just look terrible. I really wish someone did bespoke 10mm or 15mm 40k models.

I just started doing some 72-75mm sized fantasy figs to go with some large resin figs of knights I have had, simply to paint as display models. I have done a chaos barbarian, orc, samurai orc and undead, but it does greatly depend on the sculpt, as some just do not scale up well as they are not very well detailed to begin with. I was not very happy with the undead warrior, so am looking for a better sculpt to enlarge. Here is the crew with with a bit of paint and the two knights being the originals that started the group.

Scaling issues are certainly there, with heroic scale vs. realistic scale and such, so I guess it is just your tolerance for slight differences, but some simply just do not work at all.

Looks nice. The bigger it gets, the important it is to have realistic proportions. I don't personally have any use for display models (my dusty Eaglemoss Trek ships can vouch for that) so I'm personally mainly focused on what I can use for gaming at off scales myself. I suppose you could use those for the old Inquisitor scale game since it was meant for 54mm iirc.

Was it a model meant for printing at that size and modelled with the appropriate detail/proportions? Or did you scale up a more traditional one to that size? Got a pic?

I have to admit that I'm getting more and more tempted to try 40k at 15mm. I was doing some digital resizing and calculations and the idea of a crisis suit fitting on a 25mm base interests me! Now that I finally have both fresh resin AND a partly replenshed stock of isopropyl alcohol for the first time since March, I may run a test batch this week weather permitting.

The "Tiny tank" line of Epic vehicles is probably detailed enough to upscale to 15mm

28mm tanks should scale down to 15mm with few problems.

I started my tanks project and this is a 28mm scale tank printed at about 10mm scale. I just needed to be careful.about the secondary weapons.

I've seen a few people scaling down to 15mm quite nicely. Beyond that and you'd lose arms and weapons, or legs become too fragile.
