Am I missing something with this space marines heroes stuff?

Why are new minis being oreeented in this way and why would I want to pay for one model and receive a random option rather than a specific one.

These are just new models, great, just sell them like that. Are they limited runs then fine just say that. Why am I buying a “dispenser” if I want all the models.

What’s going on.

My understanding is that the Space Marine Heroes line was, specifically, created for the Japanese market (where blind buy is viewed as a plus, rather than a con). If memory serves, the first series of Heroes wasn't even available in the Americas / Europe at first.

People here in 'the West' liked the way the models looked so much that we kept asking for them, so GW obliged and now we get the blind buy models, too. But we still have to blind buy them.

Edit: I think the Heroes models from previous series have also found their way into other GW products after the initial blind buy box run, too.

They're designed for the Japanese market, where blind-buy things like that are huge. They're just a squad and a character or two - Series 1 was a Tactical Squad & Captain, Series 2 was Terminators plus a Terminator Captain & Ancient, and Series 3 is Plague Marines (there is a Plague Caster but he seems limited to Japan for now). Apparently the recently released Terminator Chaplain & Librarian are the same style of model / sprue.

And please note that if you don't want to blind buy on this series, you can buy a set of them - though I'm waiting to see the price point before I decide whether it is worth it.

I would be interested in a set if they're at the ETB price point, just from the models uniqueness and as a collector.

Yeah, they look like fantastic models, and they add a lot of variety to DG squads (while still fitting the aesthetic), so I wouldn't say no to the set.... if the price is reasonable.

If they were just blind buy I wouldn't touch 'em.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

£7 each apparently (which is the same as the S2 Terminators).

I like the look of the death guard let’s see what the squad price is. Even one of the models isn’t being revealed so there still a gamble/suprise if you buy all 6.

Fair doos if that’s what they like in Japan but making new models only for the Japanese market is definitely a way of creating white hot demand in other territories

I'm not sure why they are blanking out the sixth plague marine because a quick Google will reveal what he looks like from the Japanese release. It's the squad champion armed with a plasma pistol and plague sword.

Is there somewhere to buy the first two release sets as well then? I'm not sure where to look since I don't see them on GW store.

In the US Barnes & Noble sell them as part of the Space Marine Adventures boxes.

Other than the provided Barnes & Noble link, you'll have to use eBay as they are OOP.

If you buy the box of 6, you get all 6. I did this back in January and you don't get duplicates.

The only thing y'all's missing out on is the paint set with the awesome Plaguecaster. I wish they'd release that.

So it’s 42 quid for all 6 compared to 30 quid for 7 in the current Plague marine box.

What so I get for my extra 12, is it just limited Ed?

Considering GW likes to sell single minis for crazy money, the gamble part is quite cheap.

Don't like the gamble? Pay a little more and ebay.

What I mean is compared to the existing DG box is it worth any extra money, are some of those guys in the heroes box elites or characters?

No, it's just a collectors' item. The PM box has a lot of weapon options, the PM Heroes only have alternate heads.
DG players probably want them to prevent clone troops in their ranks, I do at least.

I just want a squad of PM for my COB army so probably go with the 30 quid one
