Hi,
I live in the UK and I'll be traveling to Spain on December, and coming back on february (EasyJet). I wanted to bring a good part of my paints to keep working on a couple projects, but Airport security is quite picky with transporting liquids.
I was wondering if anyone knows has had any problems with transporting hobbie paints. I am planning around 20 citadel paints (12ml), and a couple washes and vallejo drop bottles (17ml) on the hand baggage.
The guidelines of the company state "less than 100ml containers, must fit inside 20cmx20cm bags, and 1L maximun in total", which seems perfectly fine with what I want to transport, but I am a bit worried about airport taking almost all my paints XD
Cheers

I doubt they will let you take all those pots on hand luggage. From memory it has to be clear liquids in less than 100ml containers. Its bit of a gamble. Might have to upgrade to get a suitcase and check it in. Will probably be cheaper than re-buying all of those paints. Maybe there's some info on airport/CAA websites or a number you could call?

Yeah you won't be able to take them in hand luggage. Put them in hold. Surely being away for that long you're taking a bag in hold luggage?

Your best bet is to contact the airport you're going to use ask them about sealed products like paint, be adamant and speak with a supervisor double-check thrice as in three times by calling back and asking at both airports you're going to be at Including any layovers. You don't want to have to throw out your stuff.
On the off chance, they let you use them. Which seems unlikely they better look like new and be sealed. Otherwise, they're going to open your stuff up and probably get paint over everything else you have.
It might be less hassle to buy paints in Spain when you land. I really really don't think you will be able to fly with open paint. But good luck.

I flew a couple of weeks ago from Copenhagen to Amsterdam with a dozen or so paint pots in my hand luggage. I crammed all of them with other things like toothpaste, etc. in a clear 1 L zip bag. The bag was really full, but they didn't care in the slightest. I followed the regulations that were on the Copenhagen airport website and had no problems with my liquids.
I'm not saying it will be the same for you, but just as an example that it is possible. The minimum I would do is to check the websites of both airports and make sure they don't have a limit on quantity of liquid containers. I don't really see otherwise why it would be a problem.
Edit: to be clear, there is no requirement on the opacity of the liquid in any airport that I know of. Otherwise you wouldn't even be able to bring regular toothpaste...

As long as all those pots fit into your 20x20cm little baggy, you'll be fine. I'm a frequent enough flier and have brought citadel paints among others through in the bag provided, and there has never ever been an issue. They fall under the same category as makeup for instance. The opacity of a liquid doesn't factor either, otherwise you wouldn't be able to take toothpaste as mentioned above or shampoo, etc.

Thanks a lot for al lthe answers
According to the rules on the website of the company, those paints should be alright, but I'll make sure to call the airport to check.
I might end up having an extra suitcase and check that one in, so the paints can go there whithout the trouble of going through more restrictive security.

Don't forget to check the prices of Scale75 and Vallejo paints in Spain, where these paints are made. Mebbe an OLGS will ship to a Spanish address at a good discount with free shipping.
Finally, search on "acrylic paint airline" and "airplane travel miniature painting" for tips. Remember good ol' explosive decompression.

Just stick them in the hold, wrap some electrical tape around the paint pot and be done with it.
I have never had any pot, jar or bottle break from being on a plane.
