Hey all
So, I managed to score some pretty fun terrain from the 100円 shop, and I've nearly finished dinging it up and making it lovely and rusty and battleworn. I really love 'Blood for the Blood God' and feel like I never use it enough, so where better than on some terrain. I've been looking to do some blood splatters, but having practiced a bit on some spare card...
...I'm not super sure what I'm doing.
Usually, in cases such as these, I'd consider looking at source material, but...
...I don't really want to look at that sort of stuff, if it's real. There's enough killing and misery in the world today, I don't want it to bleed into my silly games of space men.
So, with that said, anyone have any tips, or more tasteful resources?
For a bit more context, the terrain I have is all walls, so anything against a wall would be really superb!
Thanks for stopping by!

So you can get good results like this.
Mephiston Red is a good extremely fresh blood color. Especially if you hit it with a clear gloss after it dries.
Khorne Red is a deeper arterial blood. Nice for large pools or to shade the mephiston red. Again, you can hit it with gloss to make it shiny and wet.
Now for old dried blood, you'll want to mix a small amount of red with a brown color, possibly with a little black as well. A dull reddish brown with give the appearance of week+ old blood.
To mimic blood splatter, you can take a very stiff paint brush, put the red paint on it, then move your finger across the bristles to get it to splatter droplets towards a surface. The size will depend on the size of the brush you use and how much paint.
Cast off patterns from bladed weapons usually trace an arc. So little half moon lines of blood, mixed with the droplets from the previous technique can be helpful. Someone getting shot on the other hand will produce a V shaped burst of droplets and streaks.
Finally, less is more when it comes to blood. It'll look more impressive to have small splatters with realistic lines than massive smears and puddles, unless you are dealing with say a sacrificial altar. Maybe take the time draw a bloody hand print, with maybe an attendant smear.
If you're making a surface that is supposed to be completely soaked in blood, remember that blood is a very thick fluid. If you've got a lot of it drying in one location, its going to start clumping. The best I can describe it is a bit like globules of snot or very thin jello. This technique would be good to represent a sacrificial altar that has had continual sacrifices for days or weeks and its go layers of blood in various stages of freshness.

I'm really looking for application tips, not paint colour reccomendations, but thanks both of you for stopping by with the advice.

To add to Grey's tips, do a search on "terrain blood splatter walls". Didn't find real life gore when I did a search.
Looks like you have three things going on with blood:
* Splatter
* Gravity
* Blood age
All three include the blood drying over time.
Blood is actually pretty broad, so post a pic of what you're looking for to narrow down what techniques you may be using.
And, despite what paints to use, search on "blood Tamiya clear red" for more info.

well unless you are WE.
@poser.
Someone summed it up nicely, Grafity, angle and splattering are the three relevant things.
If you have a hard brush consider "flicking it" with thin enough colour, that way you have angle, splattering and gravity somewhat deently covered but maybee need to add some more thin coats ontop of it to make the red pop.
Dried blood also has a brownish tint to it especially if it dried long ago.
Also for source material, there's a difference of blood and the pictures of it in google are comparatively harmless compared to say looking at the effects of bio or chemical weaponry. Which is far worse.

You can try getting some of your blood paint in a brush and the blowing it with an airbrush to get a spattered effect

Or one of those dust-off spray cans if you lack an airbrush. Practice will be needed to get the right droplet size though.
