a handful of skaven models are still in metal. Unclear if they're actually still cast or they just have a mountain of skaven models tho.

I bought Steel Legion not so long ago and they were all metal.Same with the Sanctioned Psykers. Which was very cool, because it is far better than finecast!

Yeah they basically stopped porting everything to finecast at some stage so there is a handful around. Skaven have probably got the most still in metal which is great as they've some really characterful metal models in their range.

In general on the GW store it will mention if its metal; if it doesn't mention the material then its typically finecast.

I suspect all promotion and use of finecast is gone now and its simply a case of existing finecast/metal waiting for plastic replacements or a range update that lets gw remove them.

Yeah, Steel Legion are metal! I've been building a steel legion army this year using only metal models.

Made to Order is produced in the material the models were last available in, be it metal or resin.

Middle-earth still has a number of kits in metal, including some that have returned to metal from finecast such as the uruk-hai command and Boromir.

Interesting to know.

On a related note, what is the current opinion of fine cast quality these days?

Not much. I wish they'd at least go back to making characters in metal.

Overall? {shrugs} Hated for at least as much for not being metal/plastic/new as for any actual issues.
But the few FC pieces I have? No major complaints.
I have a Goblin boss on giant squig who's sword predictably broke at the hilt (replaced with a weapon I liked better anyways), a SoB Canoness with a slighty warped sword blade (fixed0, that LE Commissar Severa (?) Rain who's perfectly fine, a Biovore & spores - also perfectly fine, an AoS/WHFB Jabberslythe in perfect condition, and an AoS/WHFB Cockatrice which has lost a few wing feathers over the years. But the cockatrice started out 100%.
So 4/6 in the positive column & the other two negligible.

I've still bought and had issues with modern finecast. The problems with it are basically inherent to the material/method and can't be easily removed if removed at all. If they could you'd bet GW would have stuck with it. The big shift to plastic is clear sign that they simply cannot "fix" finecast.

As a material its not too bad to work with, it holds great detail too. But its no good for long thin parts (originally designed for metal) and its bubble issue is a problem because the bubbles happen in clusters which obliterates detail (as opposed to more regular resins where its often just one or two bubbles); and it happens repeatedly in the same area (regular resins its typically random); which means replacements can have the same problem over and over and over again.
