Time to pick the theme for January's challenge. As always, 4 options to pick, and the runner up gets a second go next time. This time, your options are:

Dark Nights: In every setting, the night can hide dangers both sinister and subtle. Hidden assassins, deadly predators, saboteurs working under the cloak of darkness or magical foes spawned from the dreams of the living, Your entry should feature such nightly individuals, or otherwise be themed around night and darkness.


Fighting Fresh: New year, new army, new miniatures! Whether it's the conscript infantryman facing their first battle or the soon-to-be heroic adventurer taking their first steps into the wide world, your entry should represent something inexperienced, untrained or otherwise unused to battle.

Keeping Distance: At the end of a pike or down the barrel of a sniper's rifle, it is often best to keep enemy combatants at a distance, striking them from afar. Your entry should reflect this by including models that eschew close combat for weapons with considerable reach or range.

New Tricks: Bit of a more abstract round, the challenge here is to step outside your comfort zone and try something you 've never done before. The first of a new faction, switching scales or trying new techniques, your models can be whatever you like so long as they represent a new frontier for your painting ventures!

I went for new tricks, I kitbashed a techno-barbarian this evening and I'm keen to try out a Blanchitsu styled scheme on him.

All good themes, I could have gone for any.

Hmm. New tricks seems to be in the lead. The one I don’t have an idea for. Oh well. Got a few days to figure something out, and it’s still early in the vote.

I voted for New Tricks. I'm trying to master NMM, and if that's the theme, I'll try painting something fully armored with various surfaces as an exercise.

I chose new tricks so I can paint my gandalf from mini leads. Not sure of his scale, possibly about 1/16.

Ooh that was my goal last year! Was a fun learning experience, very satisfying to crack.

New Tricks it is! As this theme is a little more abstract, it'd be great if you could leave a note alongside your proof or final images that explains what the new element is.
