Hello everybody here at Dakka,

An old timer here looking to try to return back to miniatures. Probably a mid life crisis thing.........

Can remember my first miniatures (Dungeons and Dragons) way back in the mists of time. Those pieces of lead were still sold in poly bags with header cards in those days.

On to today, boy have things changed.

I get more of a kick out of vintage miniatures which I remember playing with as a teenager in the early 80's then modern Games Workshop models. However Whilst searching the web have come across other miniatures I find amusing like Malifaux and Burrows and Badgers.

Malifaux seems like a very dark concept but the Gremlins are really cool and amusing.

However at the moment the Burrows and Badgers miniatures really shout out to me, so I have just purchased a small group to see how I get on with painting them.

So until they arrive I will be looking around Dakka for some inspiration and painting tips.

Best wishes, Tony.

Welcome, Tony.

Miniatures have come a long way since the Ral Partha days. What brought me back was Chaos Terminator models, thought about them all the time when I wasn't gaming.

Good luck and enjoy yourself!

Hey Tony, you are not alone in having a mid-life crisis, or returning to gaming after an absence, in fact there's a whole thread about it somewhere. For every 20 something that gives up on it cos it aint cool no more, there's a geezer like me or you returning to the fold.

Thank you for welcoming me to the Forum.

One thing did cross my mind recently was that it appears that the hobby is really scattered with so many various games out there. It's a wonder anybody finds enough people to form a group of players interested in the same game.

Not too sure if it is going to be the gaming side I will be looking for or the collecting and painting of the miniatures I will enjoy. At the moment I do not wish to tie myself down with any one game or company. So I will be just buying into miniatures that I like the look of.

Being of a certain age I prefer metal miniatures followed by Drastic plastic ones. Resin I am not too sure about at the moment. I expect with age it could degrade and become brittle given 10 or 20 years.

There are a hell of a lot more games than there were in the 80's that's for sure, but I think there are also more gamers too, and it's easier to link up. Take a look at the old classified ads in White Dwarf circa issue 50ish to see some real desperate kids.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
