Really considering leman russes without side weapons to use them to block line of sight to infantry, reading alot of tournament list armies and they often bring bare bone infantry squads for objectives, this can make alot of sense too as bringing all those company commanders can mean alot of free assassinate points, ofc now with hell hounds going down 10 pts they would also block line of sight really well, chimeras too

Unless they're close to the tank your infantry can be fired at from the sides, and are you sure you want to keep an important infantry unit near a hellhound?

With how terrain has been prescripted in this edition, it shouldn't be that much of an issue unless you aren't playing with enough terrain. Do you have enough obscuring terrain on your board when you play? There should at least be 2-3 in the middle and one in each of your deployment zones as a standard IMO, since otherwise you're not taking advantage of the new terrain rules in 9th.

But with the current pricing, I would say chimeras and hellhounds are definitely the most ideal, though I'd opt more for the former since they can actually transport them and not kill them as often since hellhounds explode on a 4+ if I recall correctly.

Im really waiting for the new guard codex to give the chem-cannon more range, at 8inches it is under-powered, but yes the chem cannon tank isnt likely to blow up, but with smaller boards you should be able to block LoS completely to your infantry with tanks, guard infantry can be really ideal if taking bare-bones to use for objective scoring, and if you are only bringing 40 dudes your enemy anti-horde weapons can pick them all off quickly leaving you without infantry

Sounds like a good idea in theory. 3 chimeras in a 'wagon half circle' with 10 guys each in them, plus 20 guys hiding behind them, is what 500 points? but that team would probably hold an objective all game...maybe, scoring 20 points.

Take 2 such teams, it's half your army, but you play the primary really well, which is, I gather what it's all about with guard.

Chaos could do similar with cultists and rhinos
