The fact that the Lord of Contagion model has not been released separately strikes me as incredibly wrong on the part of GW. For people who weren't around while Dark Imperium was still on sale, this is a major slap in the face. I just don't understand why the model was not included in the Chosen of Mortarion box instead of that random champion.

because they'd have to make a new sprue for it and we all know they cant afford it /s

The chosen of Mortarions all shared a sprue in dark imperium.
The lord of contagion shared the same sprue as the blight drone.

What an irresponsible thing to do on GW's part. I hope the LOC doesn't go to legends after this edition because of that.

They can barely keep things in stock right now, because of COVID. A singular character is the least of their concerns. Nor it is something that is going to go to legends.

Because GW hasn't gotten around to either creating a new kit sprue to produce nor to put the Dark Imperium sprue with him on it into the production queue.

Why? Got me.

theyd have to release a kit with a flamer plague drone + lord of contagion. He's gonna get a new sculpt eventually. He still is missing the bit for one of his weapons options + the orb.

Then again, if I recall my bits correctly, if they did release the Lord of Contagion sprue, not only would you also get the Plague Drone, but you'd get a few more Plague Marines, and I think the necessary parts to complete the partial Plague Marine that's on the Poxwalker sprue.

The orb LOC is the Lord Felthius model. No idea why that set isn't still available.

Yeah, completely mindboggling that they axed their stand-alone LoC...

Seems like management decision to just curb all ETB because they were eating away at the sales of the big kits and LoC were caught in the blast.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.

No - they worked out that they can sell them for a HUGE markup like the Chosen of Mortarion and the new set with the DI Ancient.

Sweet sweet cashola!

Those aren't ETB sets though, I am talking about all the sets which were ETB variants of big kits.

While the current way of doing things is superior to the cultists/deff kopta situation, the prices of those former DI sprues is completely insane.

It's a bit of a distinction without a difference - they're mono-pose push-fit models; just not specifically branded as 'Easy To Build' (although the webstore does still specify that they require no glue).
The Blight Hauler seems to be the only model which has retained the ETB branding, for some reason..?

I can see the argument that the ETB Redemptor/Aggressors might take sales from the full kits, but if that was the case, I doubt that it would have been released in the first place without foreknowledge of that fact.
And removing ETB kits which duplicate multipart kits shouldn't have impacted the Lord of Contagion, since he was never available outside of starter sets (/Conquest) anyway.

I expect to see Felthius get a stand-alone release since he's on his own sprue separate from the ETB Blightlords already. I wouldn't rule out a box with the LoC/Drone sprue and a Poxwalker sprue in the same vein as the Heroes of the Chapter set, either.

GW is getting some real deep value out of those DI moulds...

Bit wierd that as a mag the same sprue costs 5 times less, then when in a box. Makes me, kind of a want, to buy models in a plastic zip bag.

I would say there is a chance we will see Felthius/Generic LoC when they release that War zone Charadon campaign book. If not I guess I am lucky that I have all the LoC/Felthius I'll ever need.

Given the number of kits waiting on restock in General they probably just haven't got round to it. We're only just getting the Primaris Ancient now and still don't have the Agressor Gravis Captain yet either.

In terms of cost, the magazine was to pull people into the hobby so would always have been the much cheaper a normal release. Just look at the Repulsor (£36 in the mag, £50 in the store) and the Burstcrawler (£18 in the mag & £40 in the store)

When I was talking about "Easy to Build", I referred to the lable GW slapped on certain push-fit kits. Essentially everything you find when searching for "Easy to Build" on the GW webstore.
MBH are the only remaining 40k set of that range.

Sets like DI or Indomitus were not marked as as "Easy to Build" despite containing push-fit miniatures.

It's the only ETB model that didn't haven any equivalent in other sets. All other ETB sets were simply removed completely, none were re-branded.

I expect to see Felthius get a stand-alone release since he's on his own sprue separate from the ETB Blightlords already.

His feet are on another sprue though, they would have to make a heros-style base to ship him separately.

In 8th, Kits like the new necron destroyers or outriders from Indomitus would have been branded ETB , sold with a reduced price tag and complete kits would have been made, with options, etc...

In 9th they sell them as complete kits with big boy prices. Is just stupid but ... if people buys them at those prices... GW isn't the stupid here.

It is when we are talking about the specific line of products carrying this name disappearing, isn't it?

Now whats interesting is why they have dropped the ETB idea. I suppose it wasn't worth it? But why?

Because people that should bought them didnt, or people that should have bought the complete kits bought the cheaper ones and converted them?

Judging from painting galleries and army showcases as well as my own gaming group, I'd say it's the later. Most plague marines, intercessors, redemptors and aggressors are ETB and/or dark imperium models, with the conversions of the additional load-outs definitely being more numerous than models actually built from the complete kit.
