So , recently played a game and my opponent brought Raven guard with an assassin. I said , as has been the case since supplements came out back in 8th edition, “ok fine your gonna loose your doctrine bonus”, but apparently the wording in the codex says “excluding agents of the imperium” when it talks about all units having the combat doctrines keyword or “angels of death” or whatever it is that gives them their bonus I forget . Needless to say even though I KNOW you can’t bring an Assasin without penalty , I know have no answer to him as to why he can’t bring one.

If they showed you the rule allowing it what makes you think it isn't?

The rules for Agents of the Imperium were changed in the Psychic Awakening books. You can include a single Agent of the Imperium in any Imperium detachment and it will not negate any detachment or army bonuses that require all your models to have a specific rule or keyword.

The most recent rules for Agents of the Imperium are in Psychic Awakening: War of the Spider. These rules state that Agents do not stop you from using rules that require your whole army to have a particular keyword.

This means that SM chapters can use their Combat Doctrines and "super Doctrine" ability without problem.

Ok ... right on ... I mean yeah whatever I guess. It’s just so hard to know what’s what cause for the longest time the FAQ specifically stated that this is not the case. I don’t have war of the spider and neither did my opponent.

Do you remember when it wasn't legit or what FAQ exclude it?

Because I have always had an Assassin in my army and I don't remember a single period when this happened

I can't condone a place where abusers and abused are threated the same: it's destined to doom, so there is no reason to participate in it.

Thats because it hasn't since they released index inquisition in the WD prior to that it was the case since the original 8th edition index imperium 2 had no real assassins rules asside from the datasheets.

Indeed. While at first glance it may seem that the Superdoctrine is lost based on the Superdoctrine rule alone, the rule in War of the Spider allows for the Superdoctrine to work just fine without any penalty, as do Combat Doctrines on their own even without the rule in War of the Spider (this got updated in the new codex to allow for AGENT OF THE IMPERIUM units). I recently made that mistake.
