Looks like there is an update to the points manual today. Not sure what changed or not.

Custodes Vexilus Praetors went up by 20 points, and have to pay another 10 points on top of that if they want a vexilla magnifica.
In the previous document GW apparently forgot to price in the vexilla for that model, which had a few players questioning whether it was a mistake. Seems they were right.

Had a quick skim through the armies I play, but didn't see any other changes for nids, genestealer cults, or custodes.

Rather foolishly, they didn't use the convention they use for the errata documents and put changes in a different color.

But yeah, the already mentioned reavers and custards are the only things that stand out, though I wouldn't know about FW stuff.

It's so wild to me that Hellions are the only hoverboard-riding unit in all of 40k and GW has just always had zero ideas for them. Like, nothing at all. "I dunno, they infantry but they fly and move fast?"

Storm Trooper Squads still pay for a Bolt Pistol on the Sergeant, but not a Plasma Pistol - because that makes sense. The ST Officer, on the other hand, does pay for a Plasma Pistol if you give him one.

In a small degree of fairness, I don't think I remembered to email them about that one. But surely someone else might've done?

My guess is they've not colour coded it because it's not an official update and they're pretending no mistakes were ever made.

I notice they updated the Baneblade/chassis so it now pays 50pts for lascannons instead of twin heavy bolters. Which confirms that the 50pts was meant to refer to the sponsons and they forgot the chassis comes with a set in built.

They fixed the typo where Chaos Terminators had a points value for chaincannons.

Chaos Terminators' reaper autocannon is a reaper autocannon again and not a reaper chaincannon. Their power weapons remain the same zero cost as their chainaxes, though, meaning all the people who converted a whole squad with chainaxes to minimise the squad's cost remain screwed. But I think we've established by now that "feth the converters" is deliberate GW policy.

The Dark Eldar codex and the Field Manual are released close enough together that it is plausible they know the final point costs from the book. So maybe they are 20 and 17 now because they will be worth those points in 4 weeks.

FAQs are to fix things now, now to fix things for a future release.

They fixed inquisition acolytes getting melta and plasma guns for free. And then to ensure they fully punished all the players that used the error to spam acolytes and win multiple GTs, they put their base cost up to 10pts a model!

This is basically the errata to the previous errata. Pretty obvious considering how much of a disaster the Tau section of the last FAQ was.

So far the only improvement is Shadowsun got a 20 point reduction they still haven't actually fixed anything to make the army less overcosted.

I get the feeling this was just to fix the rather embarrassing errors they made last time. They're not fixing anything with these changes.

But if you do it now you'll have more points for time invested, leave it till codex, or codex errata time and they'll be down to a more appropriate 12- 14 or so

They can't take them. One of the flaws of this new system (if it isn't listed its free) is it doesn't account for actual access- everyone has to do all the cross-referencing, no matter how deep a rabbit hole that is.

So, in this case, to the datasheets:

Warbikers have no weapon options.
Nobs do, and the datasheet tells you they can replace their weapons with items from the nob weapon list,
So you have to jump to page 83, but here you find the footnote that states that kombi weapons can't be taken by Nobs or Boss Nobs on warbikes.

In this case, the weapons aren't listed, not because they're free, but because they aren't available as options. But you have to go through two different documents in three different places to find that out.

I don't know why we don't return to the old way of doing things. Lay out the points cost *in the data sheet* so you don't have to flick between five different sections of three different books/pdfs to make a flipping unit.

I was considering grousing about this (again), because as far as information management goes, its utterly terrible, and as far from best practices as you can get without being utterly unreasonable on purpose.

I suspect GW thinks this somehow lets them control the information better, as it would somehow mean revising the datasheet each time rather than a table that isn't organized in the same fashion as the codex (the tables are slot then alphabetical, codex entries are slot and then... however the layout designer got things fit on the page, which is not useful).


Or its simply that this new system is easier (for them) to update and they just don't care. They just have this 'master file' exactly as we see it, and they cut and paste the relevant section into each codex for publication and then update it every couple months for the 'munitorium manual.' It would explain some of the error propagation.

Glad to see this is out, even if without fanfare or change-logging.

And well what a surprise the typos people decided to make molehills to die on did turn out to be typos! Shocking. Guess BCB will have to rip all the Reaper Chaincannons off his Termies now, sad times.

Not all were fixed. For example, Drones are 20 points if taken as a fast attack slot, but 10-15 if taken without a slot org slot. Maybe it was intentional though.

The fact they have fixed these issues just proves they were issues in the first place, so thank you for proving my point.

It also looks like the Power Level document was also updated today, but I definitely have no idea what changed there.

It's weird how basically all the different methods of laying out points costs have people who really like and dislike each one.

For me, personally, I really like having all the costs in the back of the book; it means that when I check my list and make lists by hand, I don't need to flip repeatedly though the codex.

I fundamentally don't use the points costs and unit profiles at the same time, so it makes sense to me and is convenient to have the profiles on one set of pages and the points in the back of the book all together, and I prefer it this way. I found the 7e codex flipping through datasheets to find the points costs mildly irritating.

With all the patches and FAQs, the points values might as well have been microscribed on a hedgehog testicle and hurled at the surface of Mars. I just let Battlescribe sort it out.
