Hello my friends,

I just recently had an epiphany that I could field nearly all my painted 30k Emperor's Children figures as a perfectly legal 40k Chaos Marine (EC of course) army. While (luckily) a lot of the 30k units I own transfer over directly, there are a few 30k units I have that don't... and I'm looking for ideas on what (if anything) they'd be good to count as in a 40k list.

My thought is that these guys were loyal to Fulgrim / chaos when there ship got sucked into the warp... but while 10k years passed outside their ship, they were effectively in suspended animation... so while they are Slaanesh loyal, they haven't really mutated at all.

Specifically:

I have 2 squads of Kakophoni , which are guys with heavy sound weapons. I think they'd make good Havocs, but the weapon choices are autocannon, heavy bolter, reaper chain cannon, las cannon or missile launcher. The only thing they really look like to me are heavy bolters, but if you have an alternate selection, I'm all ears.

I have a squad of phoenix terminators that I think would work as unmutated Mutilators. Basically chaos assault termies before all the mutation happened. Is that reasonable?

I have a group of palatine blades. No idea here, but if not as a stand-alone unit perhaps as sergeants for other squads?

I have both the Eidolon and Fulgrim models. Don't think either will transfer but am open to suggestion.

Lastly, I'm looking for suggestions on good HQs that I could find decent models for (either 30k or 40k). I'm not really into the whole pink & penisy thing... so HQ's that could be represented by a relatively normal looking model would be appreciated. Though I could always say that a muted HQ attached himself to this "new" war band.

Thanks for your thoughts. Trying to make the best out of a bad situation (30k being stuck in 7th Ed).

There are some fairly direct translations i think.

kakophoni = Noise marines. They can all be upgraded with sonic blasters in the squad, and are essentially just 40k equivalents of 30k
Otherwise i would expect you wouldnt face too much resistance using them as heavy bolter armed marines.

phoenix terminators = terminators with 2x lightning claws and mark of slaanesh, no ranged weapons there. Mutilators, like the new obliterators are meant to be a bit bigger than termies so wouldnt choose them. (please GW release a new plastic multi-kit!)

palatine blades = a bit more difficult, you could run small squads of 5 Chosen marines armed with double lightning claws (4 max for normal plus the champion can have dual LC per squad). Which would be easier for your opponent to identify if you have the terminators.
Or maybe as a squad of possessed?
using them for the odd aspiring champion/squad lead isnt a bad shout.

Eidolon = Chaos lord with jump pack, thunder hammer, plasma/bolt pistol. easy. might need to magnetise a smaller base for him so you can swap between, current chaos lords are on a 40mm base but the 50mm one he has isnt too bad. Up to your opponent that one.

Fulgrim = he looks daemon-prince size Or Abaddon rules? (try and be creative with renaming his abilities/weapons i.e the "pretty hand of fulgrim" instead of "talon of horus".)

Good Chaos marine HQ? ruleswise the Daemon princes with wings are pretty universal. Model-wise... maybe wait until GW release something better. Or go look through 3d sculpt+printers.

Hey Porkandbeans, thanks! Those are excellent ideas. Really appreciate your insights... running a chaos 40k list is new to me so trying to line up equivalents that would be easily recognizable by my opponents is a must.

I do have two regular demon prince models, but they aren't very EC (or Slannesh) looking. Love your suggestions for Eidolon and Fulgrim though. I can make that work.
