First test game of AoS next Sunday and I´ve just bought my first miniatures. I have a picture in my head but I need some help to pull an army list out of this mess.

I´m not a fan of big centre piece miniatures so my heroes will be Vampire lords, Tomb Kings and Necromancers. Without mounts at least for now.

Battleline, I like the idea of a big zombie horde boosted by a corpse cart. Stacking the buffs of 40+ models and a corpse cart. I was thinking two carts since I really like the model. I´m also thinking a bigger blob of skeletons, so I guess it´ll be a horde of zombies and a horde of skeletons. On top of that I like the chainrasp models, so that would be third battleline unit.

No behemots for now. Bats, Wolves, Grave guard etc. are all fine. I´m not a competitive player and I´m new to the game. Few years of 40k is my background.

How do I build a list with these elements? 750 to 1000pts would be first aim.

Keep in mind you don't need 3 battlelines in 1000 pts game. 1k it's 2 battleline minimum. 2k and it's 3.

Vampire lord, necromancer, 20 skeletons, 20 grave guard, 40 zombies for example would add up to 1k.

If you really want 2 carts you would basically need to drop other units to near minimum which makes idea bit bad or drop one of the 3 units(graveguard if not grand legion of nagash subfaction since you need 2 battlelines but then you are losing in hitting power...). Vampire lord, necromancer, 30 skeleton, 60 zombies and 2 carts is also 1k list.

Issue with both(especially cart one) is you won't be killing that much and are more of board control. Albeit that's what you can dominate for a while...hopefully opponents aren't list tailoring too much though.

Drop 1 cart, skeletons to 20 and zombies to 40 and you could add 10 black knights for some mobile hitting power. Especially good target for vampire's command ability.

One thing I would add, Is there is a lot of variety in missions in Age of Sigmar. You might not be dealing with that right away, but it's good to know. In 40k, all the missions sort of play the same (Primary =holding objectives, and secondaries).

In AoS, holding objectives is very important as well, but the missions are all very diffrent and really pay off with having a balanced list, and you'll want some mobility. Some missions you have to strike out into the enemy territory to hold objectives, in others you need heros on objectives to score points.

As you get into playing the game, you'll want to think about how your list might be able to win in a variety of situations.

Another thing to consider that is changing is that the new Slaanesh and Daughters of Khaine battletomes no longer give unit discounts in points for taking a full unit. This was very common in 2.0 and its clear its something GW are changing moving forward.

In theory this is a good change, in the past the unit discount meant that you were heavily favoured in taking big units of troops because they cost less in points.

With the discount gone a unit of 30 costs the same as three units of 10 or a unit of 20 and 10. This frees you up for more options in unit composition as whilst 30 will still hit hardest and survive the longest; there's now more scope to take smaller units for other purposes.

TBF that may simply be due to the exact units in question, and GWs application of it has always been semi-erratic.

LoN units should lose it though. In addition to certain units already getting more than enough compensation from size-scaling bonuses on their warscroll the LoN ability to revive an entire unit regardless of size provides sufficient compensation for the disadvantages inherent to a larger unit.

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

Two games played so far. First was pure Nighthaunt with loaned minis, not much to say about that. 20 chainrasps seemed good.

Yesterday I had a Wight king, necromancer, 10 skeletons, 10 grave guard. 20 chainrasps, knight of shrouds on steed, some stalkers and the lantern dude. Please don´t mock for small squads, they´re all I´ve managed to buy so far. Night haunts are not mine and I don´t like them that much. Except the chainrasps.

I´m planning to add 30 skeletons, vampire lord, 10 grave guard and maybe vargheists or black knights. Zombies are still on my check list but I think I´ll wait for new models. And a cart or two later on. Brexit slows down my projects and having four kids don´t leave that much money per month to spare.

How many mobile units should I have in 1k list? And how many in 2k? Vargheists aren´t that great if I´m not mistaken but then again I´m not aiming for competitive scene.
