I bought Shadow War as well as Kill Team when they got out (mainly for the terrain), but me and my group never played it (we usually play necromunda as our skirmisher).

Now with the new Pariah box, some of our players are interested in a KT-campaign all of a sudden.

I've read through the campaign rules and have a burning question:

If I comprehend the rules right, every match is played at 100 points (core rules without commanders), and when one of your guy levels up you cant play your team anymore (unless you kick someone out) because of his points increase. Is that how it is intended? It seems incredibly bonkers that your team's leader is like: "You're too experienced, you stay at home today!".

I know that's to balance the game, but we want to at least use the guys you had at the beginning in your team, even if they advanced a few times.

How do you play the game in campaign mode? As more I think about it, i just think the game was never made with campaign-play in mind. But if anybody knows how to fix that issue, please share your wisdom

Just curious, what page and paragraph are you reading from?

Campaign isn't my forte but the core manual says that a specialist cannot progress beyond level 4 and that seems to be all.

Not able to comment from experience but word round the campfire is that Necromunda is the better game for campaigns.

EDIT: Misread your post. Yes, if you can no longer afford that model in the points budget then they do indeed have to sit that one out, unless you free up points in another way - kick out a non-specialist or downgrade wargear.

Yep, you'll have to make your team more elite as you go! Alternatively, some members of your team may die over the course of the campaign, in which case it's not much of a problem. The rules also state that at a certain point, determined by your group, you should up the points totals of your game.

Thanks for your answers.

I've talked to my group, and we will propably try something like this instead:

- You always build a KT up to 100 points (which may be raised later on to add some commanders)
- Your Guys always stay at the same price when you build your KT, but you still calculate the cost it would have

(If you do this you may have a KT which is "worth" 105, while the other one is 115)

- The player which has the lower value gets some bonus, like in BloodBowl. Maybe he can buy some fresh guys, which will stay just for this battle, maybe buy CP....

What do you think?

Additional CP sounds good.

It's little tidbits like these which make Open Play the best mode for KT IMHO.

"The larger point though, is that as players, we have more control over what the game looks and feels like than most of us are willing to use in order to solve our own problems"

@Mickman - sounds like a great solution. Let us know how it plays out.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

We will propably go with the CP solution.

We still dont know how many CP/point you will get, but we will figure out.

As soon as we get to play a few games again, I will share our experiences with you
