Hey folks,

Decided to throw myself head first into the financial woodchipper and start 'another' army; Tyranids.
I have a rough idea on scheme, and have decided to try and magnetise as many options as I can per model.

I started with a hive tyrant, and ran into a question.
As I read the rules, Wings are an optional extra that does not affect payload, but the physical wings take up the top weapon-arm slots.

Is this an oversight in the model, which can have wings AND 4 arms, or in the rules, where wings REPLACE two arms?

Answers much appreciated!

Thanks,
Possum

You've read the rules right - it's a limitation of the model. I have seen a number of conversions to try and make it fully WYSIWYG.

Depending on what your local community is like, I don't think anyone would have issue with the hive tyrant not being 100% WYSIWYG - especially when it's a limitation of the model itself and not how the player has constructed it.

You are allowed to take wings regardless of your weapons selections.

Moveover, you have to fill both weapon slots (in addition to your tail) whether you want to or not . All four arms must be dedicated to weapon use. This means it is impossible to take wings and be WYSIWYG. Fortunately WYSIWYG isn't actually a rule and people are unlikely to complain when the requirements are impossible like they are here.

The legs are supposed to be scything talons, for WYSIWYG purposes. Practically, everyone converts Hive Tyrants to have the loadout they want. Mine has arms with double-Devourers (7th meta hooooooo) converted from Gaunt guns and Tyrant arms. No one will ever pull you up on it. Arm to the rules and make your model look cool, and noone will care. Nor would they have a rules leg to stand on.

Also look into the ravage chest cannons if you want to model it with something else then the feet tallons.
