Hello all, pretty new to AOS but I'm really enjoying the game and have started a stormcast army with all the new stuff in Dominion plus a friend gave me the start collecting box from a while back so I've got plenty of minis. Been looking at the new stuff and I want all of it

Well if one of them is your general you can take SCE dragon riders as battleline. At that point it is simply a matter of how many points you want to spend on things that aren't dragons!

You can also make dracoth riders battleline using the Hammers of Sigmar stormhost.

I'm feeling like any SCE army is probably going to want to make room for at least one unit of Sequitors.

They're still just good for Battleline anyway, but the redemption cache rules are so good against Death its unreal. And still fairly worthwhile just for shutting down Rally if you aren't facing Death.

I've seen rally used twice. Funny, because it was probably the most hyped command ability in the previews despite being quite apparent in its niche value.

well apparently each of them has a 600 point pricetag so an army built around the BOTH of them is proably gonna be small

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Stormcast Eternals have lots of ways you can build them to have fun or be competitive. The tough part is making sure you have options to do what you need to on the table, like holding objectives and targeting your opponent's leaders.

If you're going for a theme, then get some of the dragon riders or the other things like dracoths, dracolines (for a magic boost) and other stuff that helps support your elite units. A Heraldor can help get your stuff into combat while some Knight Incantors can help with magical buffs. Sequitors can be a good high-body-count unit which the stormcast tend to lack, and also are quite tough.

Yeah, I mean Rally is often going to do nothing. Though I think at least in my group people are still at the stage of actually remembering what tools are available to them in the game now.

I still think its worth bringing a Redemption Cache if you don't know what army you're facing for how good it can be, and the unit is still pulling its weight as far as Battleline even if you don't get usage from the cache.

I don't mean to undermine the use of the cache overall, just that shutting down rally isn't really the selling point. And certainly not criticizing sequitors, love me some sequitors and been using them as my battleline since the 2nd ed starter.

Well I have been using it often enough. As you can use it on enemy turn as well I'm using it often enough with mauled elite units falling out of combat and whether double or not I get to rally. Very nice with 10 brutes etc sort of units.

Eh, the situation needs to be very specific for the unit to benefit more from rally than it would from all-out defense. If one has CP to burn totally, but I have usually found they have better uses elsewhere. Stormcast are rarely going to want to go above 5-man, 4 for dracoth units, making rally something that will do nothing far more often than not.

Agree that SCE are an army that are especially unlikely to get much out of Rally.

It'll be armies that run large units of fairly elite models. But even then, say 12 models have died - on average rally brings back 2. Which is pretty good if you didn't have more pressing use for that CP, but its rarely going to be game changing.

I only brought it up as something the cache does in matchups that aren't Death/Daemons, happy to move on!
