Dakka's security certificate having issues is connected to the ads? Doesn't sound right to me.

I do appreciate the irony of getting the message while trying to quote your post, though.

It's the only thing I can think of that makes sense, because it would show up more consistently if it were tied to Dakka itself.

And also when it tried to take me to the page to type this comment.

And some clever clogs moderator removed the screenshot from my gallery, probably because it's not "gaming related".

I'm trying to help the frickin' site.

Also, got it again when clicking on 'Private Messages' link at the top.

[EDIT]: And I've re-uploaded the screenshot. Hopefully it'll stay around this time so Lego can see it.

Ads makes sort of sense.

I'm having it infrequently too, and it would be weird for the site to be the issue but only some of the time unless something is really borked about the cert?

I'm getting it occasionally as well. I use an ad-blocker, so I don't see how it could be an ad issue?

And I don't use an ad blocker, so yeah, I'm also not sure how ads could be the issue.

It's not ads. I can't find the thread, but this issue came up within the last 12 months and it was a simple fix.\

Edit: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/30/800430.page

Damn, it was only 4 months ago.

If you refresh often enough, you can force the issue and you'll get an expired certificate that differs from the certificate at other times. I'm not sure of the architecture, but seems like there is an old instance of a service or a load balancer still hanging around that should be updated/offline.

You can just reload to get a valid certificate. When a site has been working fine and suddenly throws a certificate error from one moment to another, you should always be careful as you might not be connecting to the website you were expecting, but to so someone else.
There is nothing glorious about ignoring such warning, they exist for a reason.

I'd second Jidmah's idea that it feels that you get - by "chance" - directed to an outdated service.

Load balancer was my guess as well.

Custom40k Homebrew - Alternate activation, huge customisation, support for all models from 3rd to 10th edition

Designer's Note: Hardened Veterans can be represented by any Imperial Guard models, but we've really included them to allow players to practise their skills at making a really unique and individual unit. Because of this we won't be making models to represent many of the options allowed to a Veteran squad - it's up to you to convert the models. (Imperial Guard, 3rd Edition)

Many Adblockers just stop ads from displaying. They're still loaded when you load the page and some ad companies have purposefully tried to break websites in the past and then sent all the angry users at the adblocker. It's part of why I switched to blockers that block scripts from running rather than just stops ads from displaying. The problem was persistent on streaming sites of questionable legality.

But it could not be the ads. I don't know enough about the internet to know what it is except that having it so intermittently is really weird Usually a cert is either good or its not, but I'll get the warning on the same page one second and it'll be gone the next and then back again.

The expired certificate is issued for www.dakkadakka.com, not to an ad server.

For me, the problem only occurs when I first connect to the site while I am logged in. It goes away once I skip the warning.

The problem does not appear when I am not logged in.

To be clear, the problem is the security certificate is not being recognized as valid. The cert is recognized as valid once I bypass the browser warning.

I've gotten the warning too, I just reload the page and it goes away. Not sure why this issue would suddenly crop up, but I'm sure Legoburner can figure out what's happening.
