How do! So with another year now drawing to a close, I figured it was time to kick off this thread.

Rather than me trying to list everything of significance, I’ll leave that to individual posters to tell us their favourite bits. Not only because it’s not my place to define what’s cool and what can’t go on the cool channel, but I’m now old enough to be set in my ways, and somewhat adverse to trying new things. It happens to us all!

I will however ask that people refrain from dumping on something they didn’t enjoy. Instead just focus on your high points.

As ever I’ll kick off.

First and foremost for me, it has to be the quartet of MCH Disney+ series. For me, WandaVision remains the best of the bunch, but I’ve enjoyed all four of them. I particularly noted that being made for streaming, and not syndication, they don’t have a particularly set episode run time. And for my money, the teams behind the shows took advantage of it. If a given bit of plot can be done in say, 25 minutes? They just went with that. If the next needed 40 minutes, they took 40 minutes. This seems to have trimmed a lot of fat in terms of B plots and C plots. It’s probably not to everyone’s taste, but I’m impressed all the same.

And….movies! In this mid-COVID world, I’ve seen a fair few films in the cinema. Eternals, Shang-Chi, No Way Home, Ghostbusters Afterlife, The King’s Man. All enjoyable in their own ways. It was nice to be back in front of the silver screen. Whilst the MCU entries were quite different (at this point I’ll include Black Widow, even though I got that on D+), it’s still nice to have it back.

Turning to the small screen. What We Do In The Shadows, quite possibly the funniest thing to hit the airwaves in a long time aired it’s third season. I loved it.

American Horror Story also returned, as did its spin off anthology American Horror Stories. More please. I love it!

The Walking Dead continues to show great improvement. Not only did we get the (delayed) finale for Season 10, plus the bonus episodes, but the first third of its 11th and final season. Whilst I’m glad it’s coming to an end, I am going to miss it. And we’ve seen it genuinely get good again.

And coming tomorrow? The Book of Boba Fett. I am so excited!

Right, that’s the stuff off the top of my head. Your turn!

Been a bit of double plus ungood geek media things personally but given Doc's no dunking rule I'll stick to saying nice things

Wanda-Vision

Okay it didn't quite stick the landing but otherwise was a lark and she seems to show some remorse in the Strange trailer, also suspecting that Wanda / Witch might be the mutant free answer to Jean / Phoneix

Palm Springs

Exactly the movie we needed for the stay in your homes times, Ms Milioti is so lubberly she negates the Samberg annoyance field all on her own

Italy

To me the best movie of the year is Luca, hands down. I feared they'd gut italian culture, instead they managed to do an amazing work, and the fact that the story was written and directed by an italian did help a lot. Encanto on the other hand was a big disappointment, so were Dune and Eternals. Ghostbusters, Spiderman, James Bond all good although nothing exceptional. Matrix and Kingsman not yet released here unfortunately.

Marvel's tv series were all ok, Loki probably my favorite one. The Witcher was great, The Walking Dead good and I liked the miniseries Mare of Easttown.

Majority of stuff I watched this year was not something new. I loved Legend of the Seeker, Banshee and The Boys. I also saw The Last Ship, which I though was much worse and despite not being a masterpiece it came out quite fun instead.

Add Book of Boba Fett to my list, because of course.

Also need to ask Star Wars Visions. Anime stylings are usually not to my tastes, so I went in with some trepidation. But I thoroughly enjoyed the various different and sometimes quite bold takes within it.

Only Murders In The Building is another good one. Really good chemistry between the three leads.

I think my favorite movie this year was “The Last Duel”. Even though I had read the book, it was still pretty exciting and tense. It was a box office failure (I blame the Damon Mullett and Blonde Affleck.), but to me it was a perfectly serviceable medieval period drama, with Jodie Cromer killing it. She is essentially playing 3 different characters, given how the story is told in 3 different perspectives and does a great job just in facial expressions and body language, let alone dialogue.

Strangely, they left out some cool stuff from the historical account that probably would’ve benefitted being in the movie, though the run time was probably 20 minutes longer then it needed to be for a theatrical release.

I’m a big fan of the directors cut of Kingdom of Heaven, also by Ridley Scott, so I’m hoping this has a similiar cut coming down the road to expand/refine it a bit more.

OK so it’s now 2022.

But I started Dune around 10:50pm. And it’s being added to my list.
