If the Astra Militarum were to get a suite of new snazzy plastic infantry, which two regiments would most appeal to you, which one would appeal the least?

For me, I'd like to see Catachans and Vostroyans get updated kits. They're by far the two most interesting regiments in the fluff for me, Vostroyans doubly so because they have that just perfect mix of Old Nobility + 40K weird. I adore the fact that their weapons are all hand crafted and use all the beautiful hardwoods and trim. The catachans just really give off that Predator vibe with I enjoy.

The least most interesting regiment to me would be the Valhallans. I get what they're going for, it's just that they're so plain looking, it's easy to represent them with the current cadians.

Honorably mentions to the Praetorians, I'd love to see them in plastic.

They really only need 3 full sets of Infantry Squad, Command Squad, and Heavy Weapons Squad boxes: Cadian, Catachan, and Krieg.

Valhallan and Steel Legion can be upgrade sprues to the Krieg kit, Praetorian, Tallarn, and Mordian can be upgrade sprues to the Cadian kit, and Tanith and Elysians can be an upgrade sprue to an updated Catachan line.

Only one I can think of that might need it's own set would be Vostroyan...

I agree that the priority should be to redo the Catachans. They should have been redone as soon as they were released, but there you go. The Heavy Weapon Teams and Command Squad are fine as they are, it's the Infantry Squad that needs updating.

Other than that I'm not too fussed. I'd love to see options for all the regiments that once existed in metal (plus Krieg) but I can't see it happening. The sales of each individual kit just wouldn't be high enough to justify GW making them.

I'd like to see Mordians. Some nice parade line infantry would be a good contrast with the current line of plastics.

I’d quite like to see something closer to the metal Cadians. I rather liked the US paratrooper look going on, and the range had nice touches like rolled up sleeves and webbing and stuff.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Krieg.

Anytime GW wants to plunder my bank account all they have to do is finish rolling out the Krieg in plastic.

I'd much rather rather prefer something new. Medieval, Australian, Samurai, Roman, Gladiator etc themed regiments have all been shown before, albeit many years ago. There is so, so much potential that just going for one that already exists would feel a bit uninspired.

Not so sure about new infantry, but I'd love a M2O run of the "Inquisitorial" Storm Troopers from 3rd edition - could use a few copies of the Sarge with sword for another Officer and most of a command squad, at the least.

Maybe this is just me being a grog, but I'm not sure I'd be happy with just two. I'd love it if we got more grimdark-Bedouin Tallarn (ie. desert robes and extra skulls on everything - closer to the Uticans in the spoiler) and Vossies always look great, but IIRC we had 7+2 full lines (Cadian, Catachan, Armageddon, Tallarn, Mordian, Vostroyan, and Valhallan, plus FW's Krieg and Elysians) and now we're down to 3ish (Cadian, Catachan, most of the Krieg line plus the plastic KT set, and a partial set of the Armageddon line). I'm not sure it would be that fair to expect all of those lines back and then more designs on top of that, and I'd almost prefer the perennially-floated "2-3 base kits + upgrade sprues" paradigm (due to the extra kitbashing potential), but at the same time I'd find it a bit difficult to get excited about new lines unless they get us in the ballpark of where we used to be.

PS: Mentlegen, I take it you're referring to the old 3e Regiments? Hard agree, there're some beautifully stupid/grimdark/over-the-top designs for GW to plunder here.

Oh damn that chart is really cool because i did not know that Solar Auxillia literally were already in the lore, they look exactly like Honus Squad with some extra armor.

Any, so long as they are actually new kits and not just the ancient 1999-2000 era minis with an extra upgrade sprue tossed in. Space Marines have had what, 8, 9... 10 now? full revamps in that time. Give the Guard at least one.

This is basically my answer too. A nice big made to order run, or a plastic kit that remains faithful to the design. Probably my favorite guard models GW ever put out and they are so hard to find at a reasonable price anymore that even with the arbitrary GW throw darts at a board pricing it *might* be worth it.

I think either give us one or two entirely new regiments or give us boxes which have a varied kit. And the trouble is I don't see them giving us variance unless it comes with an absurd price.

I'm with you on this Arcanis. People have been doing this on their own by sourcing from other companies or outright making their own upgrades for years, and you would think that Gee Dubs would have thought doing it themselves, but no they can't do that.

I figured they were gearing up for catachan kits since they made those 2 special models

Either Catachans or a full range for Death core of Kreig. Would be all over a Praetorian box set too but can understand GW wanting to move away from our colonial past and all the bad that went with it.

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples

If you remember the list of rumors that were leaked at the end of last year, there was some hints about Astra Militarum. The contents of the leak has proved quite accurate so far, there is just an offset on the dates because GW is a bit late on the schedule. The leak talked about two new regiments, in plastic obviously.

I believe one of these is Death korps of krieg. They just need to complete the range by adding a command squad and a heavy weapons squad. Now, it depends if you classify this as new things. The other regiment may be Vostroyan. I see two reasons behind that. First, a great deal of development has been done in 2005-2006, lots of sketches, and very refined sculpts involving a large team of traditional sculptors (at the time). Currently, we see GW is revisiting a lot of their old artworks or metal ranges to translate them into plastic miniatures. Things that were only artworks come into fruition in miniatures, that could hardly have been done previously. Vostroyans are a good candidate for that. Secondly, vostroyans are copyrightable models : they have a distinct look. Partly futuristic creation, partly 17-18 th century cossack, partly napoleonic. This is not a thing that you can say about Mordia, Tallarn, Valhalla ranges, which are all very reminiscent of 20th century armies. Valhalla is not even a copyrightable name. And for a 20th century look, they already have Krieg. There is a third possibility of plastic regiment being in the works, and it is simply the Catachans. The command squad is pretty recent (5th edition) and about OK, but the basic squad is ugly and dates back from 3rd edition. Instead of putting an upgrade sprue in the box à la Cadian, they may redo the basic miniatures altogether.

Honestly. I'd be happy if we just had 2 or 3 infantry ranges. Then just made add-on kits like marines get, IE:

- Cadian: Could then have a kit with Tallarn heads and arms, Mordian heads and arms.
- DKOK: Could then have Armageddon heads and arms, Vahallen head and arms.
- Catachan: Could then have a kit with Tanith heads and arms.

Something as basic as that could work. It won't be as unique as the old metal models but it'd at least give us more options.

Aesthetically and rules wise
Catachan but really I want tanith like catachan to get more tanith rules. I want sniper specialist and came cloak rules for them. Emphasis on ordinance specialists.

I want Cadian to be more like Elysians with airborne specialist, valkyries, drop sentinels, deep strike, and special win teams. Emphasis also on tank specialists.

Then krieg to be heavy infantry and siege warfare, cavalry, mobility, heavy wpn teams with strong morale mitigation. Strong ordinance but really infantry/cavalry/buggy specialists.

I agree with above these 3 regiments could provide the base for a head upgrade sprue for most other regiments. If the models weren’t monopose like the current krieg vet team.

Gathering the Informations.

Every time someone brings up "that rumor list" but dismisses Cadians as already "done", it makes me wonder where they heard the contents...

So here it is, screenshotted and reposted by War of Sigmar:

You'll notice that they flatout call a new Cadian box. This was a good chunk of time after the "repacked" Cadians had long been available.

There was also this snippet:
From what i know :

World Eater have been ready for years now. But some rework to the models could have been done.

Squat : More than a kill team.

Two New Regiments are Krieg And Catachan off course.

Great appreciation rating on the recent Catachan models.

Kill Team :

Catachan and Nids fighting in the jungle is also coming

Yay, let's indulge in a bit of rumour talks

/Cheers.
