What does everyone think? A “new” Gravis Captain and “normal” armor standard bearer datasheet - that should have been a dataslate update not campaign book content - right in front of an all-Phobos-ish Army of Renown was not confidence inspiring to me. Nor was the all-Phobos-ish Army of Reknown. One FA choice, one HS choice, and two Elite Choices. You’re likely to ping the rule of 3 three times with Eliminators, Supressors, and Warsuits and/or Reivers. Sandwiching the AOR between the new Ancient model, and crusade rules for a “Banner of Renown” when the AOR can’t take a banner is… a poor decision.

I don’t play Sisters but the Sisters rules seemed pretty nice.

Comparing it to the first two Vigilus books - Especially Vigilus Defiant, I’m kind of wondering where the rest of this book is. It feels pretty thin rules wise compared to the first two.

The Wars of Faith mission pack booklet is pretty nice, I think they basically reprinted the rules part of the rules book behind the Crusade mission stuff. And the Crusade stuff is making me wish I was in a Crusade campaign right now.

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.

Oh you're still buying those books?

I bought the book of Rust and promptly learned my lesson.

Seems only worth it if you need to have a physical copy for a tournament, or have pre-arranged a campaign using the included rules.

I'm really interested in the war of faith rules.

It frustrates me that they reprint the core rules in all the mission packs- I've always thought it would make more sense to print the Crusade rules from the BRB in Crusade mission packs.

But what I would really like to see if the mission packs and campaign books combined- there's so much crusade stuff in the campaign books... Maybe they could pull the Crusade stuff out of the campaign book and drop it into the Crusade mission pack and then create extra matched content for the campaign book to fill the space.

Anyway, I think the war of faith stuff could be really fun- I'm not really a marine player, but I have lots of Sisters and I'm looking to expand my Guard once their dex drops. I haven't picked up VA yet- I was planning on buying it off the shelf, but it hasn't hit my store yet. So if yours came in, hopefully my store will have some copies soon.

You mean this one that GW provided free in advance of the publication of Vigilus Ablaze?

Lots of good reasons to criticize GW, but this isn't one of them

That was my point. They did and should have given those datasheets free - especially as they're a minor update to an existing datasheet. There should have been completely new datasheets in the book and they should have been Phobos oriented - a Phobos Chaplain, another FA choice, and another HS choice maybe? Phobos Apothecary? That AOR is pretty bad. I think even Custodes had more variety in their early days.

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.

Completely new datasheets for models that don't exist? Do you think this is the 2000's? GW has done that for editions now.

The AOR with minor variations looks like this:

Captain
Lieutenant
Libby

Incursors
Incursors
Infiltrators
Infiltrator

Warsuit
Warsuit
Warsuit
Reivers

Suppresors
Suppresors
Suppresors

Eliminators
Eliminators
Eliminators

The only things you're not hitting Rule of Three on are HQ's (Which you pretty much can't because of Chapter Command), troops (Which the Rule of three doesn't apply to) and the one unit of Reivers.

They could have made the model exist too. I thought that was strongly implied, but if not, assume I meant that too.

No model.
No rule.

Got it because I had the first two and it would be rude not to finish it off. I haven't really read it yet because life but I'm looking forward to using the Crusade content for the next campaign I do (hopefully when CSM come out).
