Something I haven't really seen discussed recently is the Warhammer Vault, which comes as part of the subscription to Warhammer +.

GW have been steadily adding old content to the Vault. Of interest to me is that they are steadily putting older White Dwarfs in the Vault. They've made it as far back as 2009. Would be great to see White Dwarfs from the eighties and nineties, personally I doubt they'll go that far back. As well as old White Dwarfs we've seen other things too, including campaign books and old Imperial Armour books. For some reason GW has chosen just to upload the lore but not the rules, still could be worth a read for those who don't already have these books.

I doubt the expansion of the Vault will do much to bring in new subscribers. Still, it's nice to see and I appreciate it. One thing I would like to see when considering which old White Dwarfs to read is some kind of index. For example if I want to see old battle reports featuring Orks (just an example of a faction, could be any game system or faction) it's not clear to me which White Dwarfs I should be focusing on. I've seen these indices by people not affiliated with GW, though those tend to cover White Dwarfs from the 20th century, not newer ones. If anything does exist let me know, it's not something I've come across before.

Some questions for those who already have a Warhammer + subscription:

Is this expansion of the Vault something you appreciate? Or you don't care and you spend any time you have on Warhammer + on Warhammer TV?

What else would you like to see added to the Vault? What could improve it?

If you're not currently a Warhammer + subscriber because you think it's terrible value for money and you'll never subscribe, feel free to tell us that too. Not sure it will add anything to the discussion though.

If they'd included the rules from those WDs, IA volumes, etc? They might've finally swayed me to subscribe.

But alas....

I've used the vault more than any other part of warhammer+, I really like having the access to old campaign books. I'm not as nostalgic about white dwarf, but I've looked at the odd older issue, it's a very cool feature to be part of it.

My only quibble, is that I wish they kept the old rules in the campaign books, I know it's not applicable for the current edition, but it's just fun to see.

I'm pretty sure the White Dwarfs are all intact, rules and all. But yeah, the "Lore only" rule for other releases is pretty annoying. I can kind of see how it makes sense from a business point of view, though I don't think it would have done GW much harm to release them unedited.

Also not chuffed with them removing rules and missions from older publications, they may no longer be useful for this edition, but still great sources to mine for ideas and seeds.

Are they really worried that little Timmy will show up at the local store with a White Dwarf pdf from 10 years ago demanding they let him play with those rules in the current edition?

I have them as physical copies but the digital version is very helpful for updating the Lex

The rules remain in the White Dwarfs.

Overall I like the Vault, but removing the rules from older publications has been the greatest disappointment. Each publication truly does feel lacking without them.

I like that they’re posting older WD’s, but I question how far back they can go. I’d like to point out that zero of the WD Weekly mags are available.

I’d like to see GW post current WD’s to the Vault when they become available. Currently they lag 5 to 6 months. Also, for feth sake implement a side-by-side page view. Not having a side-by-side page view is infuriating.

I question how much more can really be done with the Vault. If GW continues to fill it with only WD’s and lore from campaign books; they’re going to run out of things to post rather quickly.

I hope to see all of the painting guide books added, both the printed ones and the ones from iBooks. Sadly I suspect this will never happen for idiotic reasons like “Oh, We DoNt SeLl ThOsE bRuShEs AnD pAiNtS nO mOrE.”

The Vault as an idea is sort the entry price alone.

However. The vault in execution is awful. I mainly use an iPad. Scrolling vertically feels wrong. Why can’t they do it as a book format?

Yeah, the main issue with the vault is that it is technically unusable.

The weird thing is that there's not even any proper DRM, so why not just have an app that downloads them into a competent reader of some kind that can be used offline?

The collection of stuff is getting there (although I think it's a shame so much of it is White Dwarf rather than at least the fluff sections of most older rulebooks).

In terms of what I might want -

The 2nd Ed Codex Imperialis and Wargear books.
The original collection of Index Astartes fluff
The 3rd ed non-core Codex books
The BFG and Gorkamorka fluff
The Citadel Journal archives
Realms of Chaos
Most of the Rogue Trader books

Without rules it doesn't have much appeal to me.
