Posted about this in the news and rumours thread but figured I may get more help here. Has anyone else had issues assembling the new miniatures, specifically the arms?

I picked up a sprue from eBay just to have a closer look at the figures before spending so much money on the boxed set. Figures look great, really nice detail and such but I really didn't enjoy putting the first test figure together. Trying to align the arms and then attach the gun seemed like a real struggle and despite being as careful as possible the end result was far from perfect. I thought the little peg things on the torso were supposed to help align the arms correctly but there still seemed to be a lot of play when trying to position them.

Any one else had this problem or am I just out of practice? Had really been interested in this box set but struggling so much with the first figure is making me hold fire on purchasing it for now. Going to try and put together a couple more over the weekend to see if it was just an issue with that first figure or if I am going to have the same problem with all of them.

No offense but did you use the correct pieces together? I'm guessing you didn't get instructions with a sprue from ebay. I think the models only go together one way (specific torso with specific arms with specific bolter)

Yes, they're only intended to make specific poses with specific parts per the instructions - they're closer to monopose. You can assemble them differently, but you may need to cut off the nubbins and shave the shoulder joints to adjust positioning somewhat which can be fiddly if you're out of practice.

The seller actually included a scan of the instructions. As it was my first time putting one of these together I built one of the default walking poses. To be fair, been a long time since I built any marines so maybe i'm just out of practice!

Managed to grab some time tonight and put together another one. Went with another default pose and the arms were a little easier to align this time. Wondering if my problems with the first one are down to me not clearing the parts properly in my excitement to build it.

Yeah, they really do benefit from being cleaned up properly. If there’s anything left of the sprue on the torso rear half, the arms will converge with the wrists too close together.

Also you can totally use any pair of arms with any pose – the pegs are identical on each mini, and the torsos are all the same width. Some of the arm poses might look a little goofy with some of the leg poses but that’s not a mechanical issue.

I can attest to that. I've only followed instructions for the bodies.

So I just stared assmbling mine and it occured to me the "command sprue" contains NO parts that are MK VI specific, so GW clearly has that sprue designed with future proofing in mind I'm not going to run round screaming this is proof of MK II or MK V etc marines but it's intreasting and certainly hints at plans for other infantry squads

You know with all the hoohaa made about the spartan and it's compatibility with the incoming land raiders kit, and speculation that it could be forward compatible with Typhons and suchlike, it hadn't occurred to me that they might have done that with the tactical kit. It would certainly make sense.

Looking at it, the powerfist is a bit MkVI centric, matching the MKVI arms as it does. And the sgt head has a nubbin on it made for connecting to the plume. But that far from rules out cross-compatibility in either circumstance.
Although I can't say i'm overly enamored with the powersword. It's a bit... stupid looking. And big.

yeah but if they did say a MK V kit it'd be simplicity itself to give a sergent helm with the nub as well.

The Power Fist is actually closer to MkII armour than MkVI. The elbow pad is different and it has a bit of banding on the inner elbow similar to MkII and III. The rest of the MkVI arms are closer to MkIV and VII designs.

Five bodies, one gun. Or something like that….

One thing I noticed about GW’s alignment nubs is that they don’t work so well with plastic glue. As they are so small, they tend to melt and not be very useful for their job. Luckily, you have extra time to nudge things where they belong.

Started clipping and building my guys. Also, using this as an excuse to get back to stripping some of my RTB01s and bringing them into the fold of the Ultramarines.

Scale creep? Nah, it’s all posture.

agreed. if you're going to be adding your guns AFTER you base coat, you should proably consider super gluing the arms on.
