The story with this one is that I really come more from mecha modeling than miniature painting, and this being, well, a big robot, I basically painted it like I would something like a Gundam, except you don't have 300 individual parts until the last 10 minutes of the process, i.e. it's more fun, ahem. The base color of the armor is airbrushed with black pre-shading, the rest I did by brush, and then two stages of oil paint weathering plus pigments on the feet and some of the base. The base is made from cork, modeling paste, pla-plate and other assorted bits and bobs. More pics in my gallery if anyone wants to see them.

Looks really cool. The weathering is spot on. Thanks for sharing.

Its a beauty!
Really like everything about it: the shade of blue, the realistic approach and weathering, the gritty rubblebase (smart move to bring some red/orange colours to the base for complementing the blue).
Great work.

Thanks - yeah, Squig Orange and Macragge Blue go together really well. I originally used that color combo for my now-abandoned Admech army, and now I'm doing that orange stripe on all of my Ultramarines' bases because having a complementary color there really helps the models stand out against the base while still maintaining a harmonious color composition. Plus blue and orange is just my favorite complementary duo of colors.

The use layers of oil and pigment have all come together very nicely. It all has this grimy, dusty patina to the whole thing.

I know there's other ways to do weathering, but honestly, once I started using oils... I can't go back now. It just works too well.
