I remember reading it as a teen, and being disgusted. But now I'm reading it again 20 years later, and it's amazing how much of "The future" this book actually predicted.

I mean, there are no Binary human pairs with one mind that are vat born killers, but the style of government, the manner of political turmoil that lead to the earth's downfall, the banking systems, this book was written in the 70s, predicting the 2300's, and it even predicted that Social media played a part in criminal cases. I think that's amazing.

I was less enthused when the ruling governmment's banking conglomerate makes mention of a "7 BILLION dollar investment" and everyone at the table nearly faints at the sum. Like, how did science fiction writers not account for inflation?

Yup, read it way too many years ago. Loved the concept and most of the execution (ending aside).

Did you read the DC spin-off comics? Murky artwork but otherwise pretty solid.

I never heard they did a comic spin off! That sounds amazing, thanks for the heads up.

No worries! Gemini Blood, 9 issues, written by the original author.

Hope you enjoy it (assuming you can find it).

Never heard of it. But it sounds interesting.
Or at least better than what I'm currently reading (WH40k Krieg novel that I found cheap {almost a waste of $5})....

So, another thing about modern day society that is predicted, lab designed humanoid species being weaponized. Just last week a viable synthetic embryo was created, without sperm or egg from a human. First practical application that people suggested was military use.

See, I was gonna go with Exo-Squad. About artificial humans. Or now that I think about it, Bladerunner. Funny how so much of sci-fi in the early 80s-90s was about artificial humans replacing or going to war with humanity. Was this our fear of "Replacement Theory"? Sounds really racist when I think about it.

I also think the part about Society becoming more concerned with self preservation, and allowing attrocities with the idea of, I had to in order to protect myself, is very telling.

The idea of torturing prisoners to obtain secrets as to who was an enemy, being abhorrent to one of the main characters in the book was interesting. The "enlightened" society is so quickly turned into that which they abhor, out of sheer self preservation.

Kinda like the entire Patriot act of the early 00s. "We should be allowed to take inhuman actions against people to preserve our humanity!"

The character in the book even says, "You come from a barbaric period of the 21st century where that was acceptable. I won't see us go back to that..." Paraphrased because it was an audio book. But point is clear.
