How does it work compared to a regular weapon.
Example. HQ has black mace vs squad of 10 Marines. It does 3 damage each.
Compared to HQ with accursed sword and dies 9 damage also

Unless it specifically allows damage to spill over each successful wound will remove a marine and "waste" one damage.

Damage spills over with the Black Mace, so if you hit a squad of 2w marines with it and they fail a save, the first hit will do 3w, killing one marine and then you allocate the remaining 1w to the next. Then if they fail the next armor save, that marine with 1w dies, and the remaining 2w carry over and kill the next marine.

The Black Mace is one of the ones that specifically allows damage to spill over.
