Hello! I just found the second edition chaos codex and the dark millenium box I got back when I was a kid. I missed out on second edition and have always wanted to play. Has anybody else got back into second edition recently or decided to pick it up?

I played a couple casual 2nd ed games a few years ago (pre covid), and I've got all the supplies for it. More recently I got the itch for more, and will probably start hosting small games with friends. Check out the thread https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/803394.page. I just put together a 2k Eldar list for yuks.

I still have my copy and I believe every codex from back then from when I first got into 40K. Although my Imperial Guard, Eldar and Tyranid codex have gone mission some time ago. I know they're around here some where.
I'd love to play it again but no one I know is willing to take the risk of playing an old edition. Which is very sad considering all they would have to do is bring an army and roll dice.
I didn't win very many games back then but my armies were very poorly put together as my collection was extremely small. I di have some fond memories from a few games where the unexpected happened. I found some success with Chaos Space Marines and Imperial Guard more than from Space Marines or Darn Angels, which were the armies I started with.
I highly recommend Plasma Missiles in a Devastator squad if you're facing lots of Orks and Gretchen. The over heat on the blast markers is where it's at.

Hope your luck is better than mine.

Yes I was, then it petered out. Most annoyingly I lost the alternative HtH system a chap had calculated that achieved the same results far more quickly and with less complexity.

I still play 2nd Ed regularly, it’s a blast. I never played 3-7th Ed (would like to though) but really didn’t get on with 8th or 9th so 2nd has kept me playing in the awesome 40k world.

I've got one:

https://www.ahlloyd.com/2016/11/new-warhammer-40k-combat-resolution-system.html

I have all the "Codexed" armies (no Necrons or Squats), all the books, and am tracking down White Dwarf issues from the era. I have a bunch, but priority was given to those with datafax/vehicle rules.

As it happens, I'm getting ready for a fall/winter campaign Chaos vs Eldar.

Here's a link to various house rules cooked up at Portent back in the day:

Want a better way to do fantasy/historical miniatures battles?  Try Conqueror: Fields of Victory.

Do you like Star Wars but find the prequels and sequels disappointing?  Man of Destiny is the book series for you.

My 2nd edition Warhammer 40k resource page. Check out my other stuff at https://www.ahlloyd.com
