Getting back into hobby after two year hiatus. See thr DG and Tsons battleforces and thought its a great way to get started.

Couple ?s

1) if i play black legion i assume i can take magnus as my supreme command and have some rubrics as elites. Right?

2) how much of the lineup is new? I see chosen, possessed and legionnaires(kt) they look taller than normal so im assuming the chaos push to primaris wont happen for years.

3) overral happiness with current csm codex?

4) for tourneys used to be able to take morty and magnus can i still? I see only one supreme command per detachment so figd itd prevent me.

Magnus and rubrics rules are in the Thousand Sons codex, taking Magnus as a supreme commander will break the legion rules in a chaos marine detachment.

Rubrics are an elites choice for a chaos marines army or troops for thousand sons.

All the chaos infantry is fairly new and no risk of primaris anything right now.

The chaos marine codex is a sore point for some people due to GW handling some options poorly, but game wise it's not bad.

Unsure on the supreme command one (never tried using more than one to need to check) but I feel you're not really wanting a chaos space marines army at this point.

I want to run red corsairs with death guard in the elite and mortarian as a supreme commander.

Based off the ork book and ghaz (you can run free bootaz and take ghaz with only penalty being ghaz doesnt get kulture nor the goff kulture) i can do that.

I know abbadon can be taken in csm book w red corsairs but cant find anything on morty/magnus.

As far as I know Morty and Magnus both break detatchments that arent their legion because they dont have rules that allow them to be taken with other factions

Are you playing with friends? Tournaments? Pick up games with randos?

The answer is different for each.
Friends, ask... but yes go for it(if they are your actual friends.

This is correct. Abaddon has a set of exceptions and other rules that basically allow him to be a Supreme Commander for Chaos factions without breaking any purity bonuses. The Death Guard and Thousand Sons books were released earlier, before GW thought up this approach, so the same doesn't apply to Mortarion and Magnus.

If you're looking at something strong for tournaments, Abaddon is now arguably better than Mortarion and Magnus

Technically he’s a self-employed Contractor currently helping Chaos out, but has no particular loyalty to them
