I know this is just me, but i would not mind some of the older metals coming back and made to order like the Commissars. I think it would be fine if GW released metal units or even whole army via mail order.

I know it is an unpopular opinion, but some of the old models still hold up against some of the newer plastics and are clearly better than the fine cast models.

I agree. There are good minis (and bad minis) from every period of Citadel's history. I'd love for them to bring back the good stuff as MTO.

Yeah, bigger bases is the right call, IMO. It'll make the transition for people with existing armies a little bumpy, but it's a good long-term strategy. Citadel miniatures' scales have crept so much since the 20mm/25mm base standard was established.

This all looks good to me! Well, I never played Bretonnians, so I don’t have an opinion about the lance formation. If nothing else, it‘s much easier to make custom movement trays than it used to be.

I wouldn’t say no to Siege!

As someone with a fortress, siege tower, battering rams, etc. I would say that I won't adopt this system unless there are siege rules. I don't want to play a siege every time I play Warhammer, but every once in a while is a lot of fun!

Yeah, I'm concerned about the physical clunkiness of the fall back rules. Pushbacks were one of the (many) overcomplicated rules in 3rd edition that slowed games down.

The original 20 and 25mm base sizes were established when Warhammer was played with 25mm scale solid-based miniatures. The scale creep since then has been tremendous. I think it was a good opportunity to increase base sizes with this new edition.

While I don't own any Chaos Dwarfs, I admit that I'm really curious about what will or won't be in the army list.

I wonder why they can't make new molds for resin casting. They have the master models and molds for metal casting have to be replaced every so often.

I assume it's a bit of work and the initial investment, but it just seems silly to bother people with metal models when GW effectively dropped the material years ago and only really keeps it around for Lord of the Rings and made to order runs.

My guess is that when they did that (with the Finecast models) their sales suffered. The Old World is obviously intended to appeal to the older gaming demographic who came up when metal models were popular. Personally, I dislike resin models and usually avoid them, but would be happy to buy metal castings of old miniatures from GW that I want for my collection. I'd love to finish my collection of Jes Goodwin ogres, for example, but I wouldn't even consider buying resin castings of those figures.

Here are some of the returning dwarf range. Note the bases on the artillery, and the returning metal engineers and runesmith (the plastic runesmith is still there, hopefully Burlok D is as well)

The bigger bases on the models looks off. They’ve got so much space between them

The change to base sizes really does piss me off, for a product aimed at getting old players back via a huge dose of nostalgia this is an odd move.

I don't get what the up side of it is?

You can just ignore the new bases. The rules don't favor models with smaller bases anymore, so there's no significant advantage to be gained by using smaller bases. I have no intention of rebasing my armies if I take up TOW.

So, the big question that matters a lot only to me, probably, is this: Are there rules for siege in the book?

Yeah, some of those Marauder Miniatures are stone-cold classics, and that treeman is one of them. I hope they MTO the Marauder giant someday.

I'm very excited to be able to buy a Marauder Giant for a semi-reasonable price!

I wonder what "classic ogres" are? The Jes Goodwin sculpts? The Michael Perry sculpts?

Thanks.

Well, hopefully they'll have a MTO run of the Jes Goodwin "collector's ogres" someday.

Those chaos warriors were pretty much impossible to rank up properly, but I imagine it would be easier with the bigger bases.

Ashitaka wrote:"But while these are complete lists, there are no plans to release miniatures to use them with – the rules are intended for people who already have armies in their collection."

So it looks like no MTOs for these, as expected, though some people online thought there would be.

I was *hoping* for an MTO for Skaven, but not expecting one. An Island of Blood MTO would be especially nice.

There have been at least a couple of Skaven MTOs for AoS in the last few years. I picked up a Deathmaster Snikch from one. Given that most of the Legacy factions are in AoS, I think you can still hold out hope for classic minis to be re-released as MTOs.

Can confirm that I've been collecting space marines since 1993 and still haven't painted enough to fill 2000 points. Last actual 40K game I played was 8th edition (though I've been playing lots of Kill Team).

I suspect that a roadmap that projects too far into the future encourages customers to save their money for far future release rather than buying whatever the new hotness is. The marketing folks probably want people to focus on the latest releases.

It seems clear that the products they released were successful in that GW sold through what they produced. Whether the game line overall thrives probably won’t be apparent for a year or two.

I think the cutoff is something like "Any Brian Nelson orcs are in, no matter how old. Kev Adams orcs are out."

semajnollissor wrote:So I guess the marauder giant will be later?

They did specifically mention that it was going to be re-released.

The Marauder Giant is going to be a Made To Order release.

After 30 years of dithering, I decided to finally buy a Marauder Giant. It's always been the definitive Warhammer giant to me.

Poking around the old catalogues on Stuff of Legends, the earliest minis I could find that were advertised as Longbeards were some Marauder miniatures from 1990. They were armed with hand weapons and shields.

I like how they've broken down the minis. You can buy as many ranks as you want. I don't have any interest in this particular unit, but I could imagine wanting to buy some other Regiments of Renown in future MTO releases.

Yeah, I generally wouldn't expect to see it mentioned there unless it was a big success.

I believe the Tomb Kings Skeletons were released as a Vampire Counts kit in 1998 with an additional sprue of TK bits added in 2004?
These models are ooooold. Thus far I believe the only new plastic models produced for TOW are the Knights of the Realm on foot, Royal Pegasus kits, Necrolith Dragon and Dwarf Lord on Shieldbearers. Everything else is either a re-release or a resin character.

I think the Dwarf Lord was done for 8th WHFB but never got released back then. I remember rumor pics of it, or a very similar one.

The design team articles say they made brand new sculpts for Brets, but the lord on pegasus kit have obvious bits for a remake of king Louen Leoncoeur, so Im thinking the brand new plastics are actually older sculpts. Dont know if we can see some design quirks on the kits to tell if they are made with modern sculpting programs or older style?

The sprue has the irregularly shaped channels and high part density that are characteristic of recent kits.

A lot of the expected (and welcome) plastic kits are returning.

Looks like Marauder Ogres (as "Imperial Ogres") are also returning! GREAT ogres, second only to Jes Goodwin's C23 Ogres IMO.

New special characters were not shown in the article, but can be seen in the preview briefly:

Strange they would only bring the war wagon back as a made to order, after spending the time to remaster it.

The new model looks like abit like the JB painting of the Knights Panther Grand Master.

My God, if that’s true (and it certainly LOOKS true) that would be so exciting! The old Knight Panther Grand Master was such a pale shadow of what Blanche painted.

Thank you both. I just went down the rabbit hole with that and find it fascinating.

Does it feel like empire is getting more love than the rest of the armies? Are they trying to sell them as the ultramarines of Old World yall think? It does feel like they can do everything but aren’t terribly good at any one specific thing.

They're kind of the "Imperium" of The Old World, in that they're the main "point of view" faction of the setting. Gameplay-wise, they tend to be better at shooting and artillery than close combat, but they have a large, flexible army list (or at least, they did when I played WHFB back during 6th-7th edition; I assume it's much the same now).
