On Wednesday, HBO Max axed both of the DC Comics series. Both shows will end after they finish releasing the rest of season 4, EW has confirmed.
"While these will be the final seasons of Titans and Doom Patrol, we are very proud of these series and excited for fans to see their climactic endings," an HBO Max spokesperson said in a statement obtained by EW. "We are grateful to Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television for making such thrilling, action-packed, heartfelt series. We thank Titans showrunner Greg Walker, executive producers Greg Berlanti, Akiva Goldsman, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, Richard Hatem, and the team at Weed Road Pictures. For Doom Patrol, we celebrate showrunner Jeremy Carver and executive producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, Chris Dingess, and Tamara Becher-Wilkinson. For four seasons, fans have fallen in love with the Titans and Doom Patrol, investing in their trials and tribulations, and in their legendary battles saving the world time and time again."
"I'm immensely proud of our gifted cast, crew, and writing staff and their efforts in bringing to life all 49 episodes over the last five-plus years," Titans executive producer Walker said. "I couldn't have asked for better partners in Berlanti Productions, Warner Bros. Television, and HBO Max, and from the beginning, Geoff Johns and Akiva Goldsman. I'm incredibly grateful for their unyielding trust throughout this process. Lastly, I have to thank our incredible fans for their continued support, engagement, and the passionate community they've built around our show. We have six episodes left to unleash upon the world that we hope will give our beloved characters the creative closure we all know they deserve."
"To our wonderfully supportive partners at HBO Max, Warner Bros. Television, Berlanti Productions, and DC Studios, thank you for indulging us these past four seasons," Doom Patrol executive producer Carver said. "Also, what were you smoking? To our brilliant cast, indomitable crew, fearless writing staff and, most of all, to our beautiful fans: thank you all the more. You made this a once-in-a-lifetime ride."
Titans and Doom Patrol originally premiered on DC Universe to help launch the platform, and moved to HBO Max for its inception in 2020 as DC Universe became a premium digital comic book service.
Both series recently released the first half of their fourth seasons on HBO Max, and will return with the last six episodes each later this year.

Sucks for doom patrol which was always fun. Good for titans which was a bunch of miserable mischaracterizations for the sake of being edgy from trailer 1.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Almost a shame for Titans actually because they’ve been finally starting to head in right direction this season with characters getting their super suits and adopting a no killing policy.
I’ll be curious how either show gets a climactic finale the characters deserve out of six episodes that I would assume have already been filmed?

I liked the SYFY Wire report better:
‘Doom Patrol’ & ‘Titans’ canceled at HBO Max after 4 seasons - but James Gunn promises it's not his fault
Reported at the same time, news of each cancelation on Wednesday elicited a rapid followup tweet from James Gunn, the recently-hired co-CEO (alongside Peter Safran) of the rebranded DC Studios. Gunn clarified that the move to end both Doom Patrol and Titans was decided before he was elevated to the studio’s top position, while Deadline reported that each show is building toward planned ending episodes aimed at delivering series finales that won't close things out with any cliffhangers.
“The decision to end the series precedes us,” Gunn shared on Twitter. “But I certainly wish the best for the talented group of creators, actors, and the rest of the crew that produced both shows.”

Doom Patrol: very sad :(
Titans: "eh".
They could've done better. But at least it wasn't Batwoman level bad!
Though neither ending comes as any surprise.

The first two seasons of Titans was Definitely worse than Batwoman. I mean they didn’t have Batwoman going on a killing spree thru town.

Of course, as soon as I make it past season 2 of something they get cancelled!
It's a shame as I've been enjoying both, even Titans with all it's dark edgy nonsense.

At this point it’s just safe to assume everything on HBO is getting canceled.

I think Doom Patrol has just about reached its natural expiration date anyway. It was fun. I'm a giant fan of the source material and would have liked to see certain things be different, but I appreciate them bringing some of the craziness and characters to live action. Grant Morrison really should have been getting paid something for it, given that so much was borrowed from his run in particular even though there are important differences. But my understanding is that he didn't. I also appreciate that the show didn't drift...they're still making the show they set out to make.
Which brings us to Titans. I never *hated* it like so many seemed to. But my Titans fandom (not that I'm a huge fan) is more about the comics (and mainly the Wolfman-Perez run) than kids' cartoons. Still, the show was all over the place. It started out trying to be darker and grounded, but in more recent seasons they've been slowly nudging things closer to the superheroic and source material (Starfire being a prime example...she's gotten more powerful and something more closely resembling her starbolts). It still feels like moderately-more budgeted CW, but then the classic Wolfman-Perez Titans were very CW long before CW. Plenty of teen angst and even some fairly messed up moments. The issue wasn't darkness or some F-bombs but that it never really quite found its footing. Again, while Doom Patrol knew exactly what it wanted to be.
Also, while Gunn didn't kill these shows off, he probably would have. Titans almost certainly. Supposedly everything DC -- TV, animation, video games etc. will all be part of the shared universe. I'm skeptical about this decision, mind you.

None of these shows ever grabbed me, but I think four seasons is a solid lifespan for a show in the age of streaming.
