Hi guys! Long time no see.
Midget Gems contacted me suggesting that I might like to enter this special centenery edition of the painting challenge, and I was more than happy to oblige. It's lovely to see so many familiar names entering, and equally nice to see some I don't recognise. There's some great work appearing, too! For those who don't remember me, or don't know me, I used to enter the competition every month, and didn't miss a month for a few years consecutively. I only stopped when I got hired by the commission studio Siege Studios, which leaves me no time for my own hobby stuff. I think the painting challenge helped me improve a huge amount as a painter, as well as helping my ability to work to a deadline. I wouldn't have been able to get that job without the challenge, so I owe you guys a lot.
As luck would have it, I do have a little time to inbetween jobs this month to set aside for this challenge round. My entry tenuously fits both "Celebration" and "Paradigm" as I'm entering the ork Blood Bowl star Player Varag Ghoul-Chewer, surely a paradigm of the orkish kind, greatest ork blitzer of all-time. It's also fitting for the celebration part, as I'm painting for my brother as a present for his 40th birthday. I'm a bit behind schedule, and am struggling to get it finished for his 41st birthday, but it's the thought that counts isn't it? Isn't it?
Varag is also a return to my past mistakes, as I painted an older version of this same model for my least popular entry to the painting challenges ever. I think it might be the only time I didn't score any points. Hopefully this time I can get at least one or two.
