So this is a thing apparently:

I think I’ll be giving this one a miss personally. Not sure why it exists or who it’s aimed at, but I’m pretty sure it’s not for me.

"The movie tells the backstory of eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka, played by US star Timothée Chalamet.
It is set before the opening of his famous chocolate factory."
"The film, based on Roald Dahl's much-loved children's book Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, has been directed by Paddington film-maker Paul King.
It also stars Oscar winner Olivia Colman, Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins and Mr Bean star Rowan Atkinson, as well as former Great British Bake Off presenter Matt Lucas."

This looks like nothing. I anticipate a box office bomb. Not because the movie will be bad per se. But because why would anyone pay to go see it? Wait for streaming or miss it entirely. Doesn't matter.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Roald Dahl, for his many faults, is a super well regarded author. His works have a huge fan base both young and old.

That’s why people will want to go and see it. Even if it’s cack in the end.

Known actors are a huge draw. This has the usual sprinkling of well known faces.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Looks very unusual. I'm not exactly sure why we needed X-Men Origins: Wonka, but I guess we are in the age where Hollywood is petrified at the idea of using new IP.

Not well-regarded enough to avoid his books being butchered by so-called "sensitivity readers" though...

Which most of the publishers promptly ignored. And the proposed changes were super minor.

Yes, but THIS isn't a Roald Dahl work. This is just.... some nonsense.

People love the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. And we have 1 really good adaptation and 1 weirder than normal adaptation of that. This Wonka: Origins movie doesn't look like it has any of the charm of the book or the movies. It's just washed out colors and insanity. I don't think audiences really care about a movie about how Wonka found his cane and invented fizzy lifting drinks while battling a capitalist chocolate cartel.

This. The argument that people love his work doesn't hold up when this isn't his work.

And he may have been a bit of a awful person but his books don't carry to much of it. It tends to be a bit more noticed on things after you learn bout him, though I may be a bit desensitized by having to deal with H.P. Lovecraft works.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

It also looks like this movie is very far removed from the Wonka:Origins in the book, especially with everything concerning the Oompa-Loompas, which is understandable, the origin story for them was controversial even at the time of publishing, and would definitely not fly today, as it's pretty much a chocolate-themed version of 'white man's burden'.
