Is it worth to take Cortez to get CP? Some armies have abbilaties to get CP. Some just get them from random objective discarding.

Custodies have no way to gain CP. I am trying estimate how good Cortez would be. Chilling in a backline unit of Custodies.

The long story short of it, it's not relevant enough to be worth losing the points in custodes.

What do you mean by loosing points?

If I consider my main army IK coteaz has an 84% chance of gaining you 1 CP if I kill your warlord and if coteaz is still on the board

If I play my BA coteaz gains you 0CP

Is coteaz a passable choice absolutely is he a reliable source of CP no - its too opponent army dependent

Ork Gretschins gain a CP on 4+. And they seem like a popular and strong choise.

GSC get it on 4+ on the neophytes (their best unit.)

Tyranids get one from the Swarm Lord. Although most lists seems to run a singel hive tyrant for a 0CP stratagem.

Custodians do not get it.

That is the extend of my knowledge of CP grains. Seems to be quite common to me. But that is why I ask. I have not the whole picture.

I mean we have so little leeway with point that it would take some fairly large rearranging to fit 75 pts to pay for him. That's enough for another allarus or kyria draxus, or 2 exaction squads. So not really "lose" points. But to fit it in would mean hurting the power of the list imo

Custodies is one of the topp performing armies. You ca easily spare 75 points.

Custodians have so good stratagems CP is a force multiplier.

The question is stil remaining - how many armies get CP with abbilaties? Does the list stop after orks and GSC?

It's not Worth it. Believe me or not but 75 points is harder to fill than you are thinking. Especially for a MAYBE on it even being relevant. If you think points are easy than fit a calidus to won the cp game by making you opponent unable to use their best strat due to cost increase. If you really feel custodes are so strong you can give up those points that's where they'd go for me. Not some dude that will only camp backline and do the job of prosecutors/exaction squads but worse due to less survivability per point, somehow less relevant at defending itself if an eversor ot backline invade happens. And it costs almost double the cost of said units.

You can claim cp is king but just be smart with when you use your stuff and ditch bad secondaries for more cp. The value you'd lose from swapping it for near anything else just isn't worth what you could potentially gain as objectives/board control

How on earth can I evaluate how good the model is without knowing how often he hands out CP?

I am asking what armies get CP from abilaties. Eldar seem to get one CP each turn. That is a good army to syphon from.

What exactly is an ability ? In the past everything was an ability to GW. Is this still true ? Or is an ability only whats on a datasheet under abilities ? Searching the core rules for "abilities" gave me 36 hits.

All the datasheets have "ilaties" and a list of thing son the right hand side. So not the knights gain one CP a turn, not the discard an objective and gain CP. But I think most other armies have at least one unit that gives CP, but how many of them see play.

(Of corse this beeing p5feak they probably break this down into axioms of the rules.)

Some armies get free CP, some armies use the alternative option of 0CP stratagem activation, and sometimes every army has the option of discarding cards for CP. It's pretty rare for a faction to have all of these at once I think.

Might be easier to accept you get the shield captain free strat, and sometimes discarding stuff for an extra bonus?

I have not found a clear definition what is an Ability. But it is implied that neither Characteristics (that are also not clearly defined, but implied) nor invulnerable save are an Ability. See for example this phrasing from the Rules Commentary:

Or Better: When referring to the value of an invulnerable save, the Feel No Pain ability, or a characteristic preceding a plus sign, a better value is one with a lower number before the plus sign.

Some units of Adeptus Mechanicus have the ability to recover 1 CP expended on them on a 5+ at the expense of sacrificing some gear options such as smoke launchers, etc...

But at a 5+ most of the time it does not work. They are not in a good spot atm, unfortunately.

Nottingham (yay!)

Chaos Space Marines have a relic that lets them generate an extra CP on a 2+ when the bearer’s unit shoots and fights. It’s locked to Tzeentch. Not sure if it counts as an ‘ability’ for the purposes of this rules.

T'au can generate CP on a 4+ from an Ethereal

I'd say the CP generation is nice if its on a model/unit you would take anyway, but not worth actually bringing a unit specifically for that unless they are very cheap
