Today marks the one year anniversary of me being into the warhammer hobby. While I have only been here for a few months at best, I would like to use this platform as a way to thank the community for being so welcoming and cool to a newb like me.

how long have you been in the hobby? What was your starter army? What got you into the 40k universe?
for me 1 year, AdMech, and Bricky's 40k video.

I played two or three games of Rogue Trader back in '89. I had a tactical squad of Marines and my buddy had a box of Orks. My marines were the Order of the Phoenix- the idea was that they were originally all from different chapters, but each had died in battle... Only to be reborn as the Order of the Phoenix... So they kept their original colours except for their left arms. My buddy's Orks were outfitted with pompadour hair squigs and painted to look they were wearing rhinestone jumpsuits... Riffin on Elvis.

Then Space Hulk dropped, and I went deep down that rabbit hole. I bought every Genestealer Cult model I could find. When second ed dropped, that was my peak. I ran youth programs and bought a bunch of minis so that kids could play. We also played classic Necromunda. I played pretty hard in third too. By then, GSC were out officially, even though Tim Huckleberry tried to keep it going with his Citadel Journal dex, so I switched to Sisters.

We only played a few games of 4th, but then we went hard on 5th. When 6th dropped, they shafted Sisters with a White Dwarf dex... and after having been through it once when they sunsetted GSC, that was it for me. I sat out 6th and 7th... Well, sort of.

The 7th ed GSC dex dropped in December, and being a GSC fan, I bought it on sight. The announcement that 8th was on the way came before I had a chance to buy the 7th BRB, so I decided to wait. The refresh of Sisters was announced as part of 8th as well. That was magic to me- my two favourite factions, both of whom had been treated terribly by GW were finally going to get the attention they deserved.

I bought in harder and faster than at any other point in my time as 40k player... But at the same time, many of the people I had played with had drifted apart. So more buying and collecting than every, but not as much playing as I would have liked.I doubled down on 9th, because Crusade was everything I ever wanted from a game, and 25PL armies gave me the opportunity to collect many additional small armies so that I could supply friends with models when we were bored.

I'm skeptical of 10th, and taking a more measured approach on the purchasing front. I intend to do some 10th ed Crusading, but I do prefer 9th edition rules so far, and I like that the 9th Edition is in a finished state. Waiting for all the bespoke faction-based Crusade content again is going to suck, and GW is only going to give me 4 months from the time the last dex of 10th drops and the 11th ed begins. It sucks to only have access to all the tools I need for four months before the whole cycle begins again.

Right now I'm focusing on getting enough painting done to facilitate the campaigning to come.

well good on you for actually painting your models and taking time to do it! Yeah the codex releases suck, but I'm personally enjoying 10th edition a lot more than 9th. The Order of the Phoenix sound really cool. Are they a custom chapter?

actually before I even found the video I saw the Mechanicus video game and thought it looked cool. I had no interest in starting 40k but the idea of Admech were kind of cool, the JW cult borg aesthetic I found really intriguing. My first ever box was a set of skitarii and looking back they looked like gak. I didn't even bother cleaning up any mistakes.

here in good old deutschland digga is slang for 'friend' or 'bro', and judgng by how prolific you are on here I'd consider you a digga in both ways.
