How do!

Warhammer Day is around a month out. We’re promised a preview show (no other info on that at present) and an exclusive Votann model.

Well that's.. pretty boring to be honest. At least it's not a space marine.

I thought this was the Christmas model, since it has an elk icon

But that mystery pie grenade rumor engine pic will likely be for that

I think it might appeal to painters who fancy some Votann fun.

It’s a very open pose, with plenty of space for freehand detailing, lots of angles and that.

Doesn't exactly scream "40 years of warhammer" though, there's dozens of named characters across the game systems they could have done something with, or classic sculpts with a new twist instead of a Votann alternate sculpt.

This is how the announcement came across for me as well. Feels very underwhelming for a "40 years of warhammer" celebration.

For me the reason for this mismatch of expectation vs what we got is in part due to the fact that GW has been building up hype of "it's 40 years of warhammer, look at this old model, and how it was updated to look even better!" this whole year, only to release a model that is brand new and has no direct (afaik) ties to old models and is for the newest faction in the game. Kind of the opposite of what a celebration of history would normally be.

Feels like this model would be better suited for a "1 Year of Votann" celebration.

It's a nice model, but it doesn't exactly sum up 40 years of Warhammer.

The thing about 40k is that no one person can grasp the fullness of it.

For those of us who heard nothing but how "amazing" Squats returning would be, this is a perfect encapsulation of the 40 years of Warhammer.

I like it, but I expected more than what pretty much amounts to just another alternate repose of a standard miniature. The Votann already had Kahl Grendok who was basically a repose of the Kahl with a few slight changes. For 40 years, there was so much more they could have done, this just feels lazy and uninspired.

It means that pretty much every day since the launch of 3rd Edition to the release of Leagues, there's been a very vocal minority of players complaining about the loss of squats and begging for their return as well as a bunch of people doing it for the meme.

Something the vast majority don't care about, don't see huge value in, doesn't live up to the hype or feel relevant maybe?

I find that GW photos don't do Votann sculpts justice, they just don't convey the niceness of their scale and proportions.

Do still wish they dropped the random nordic bling tho.

I know about that part, obviously - just not sure what his point / complaint about the Squats returning is meant to be.

To be fair to GW random nordic bling is very in keeping with most depictions of dwarves.

That's literally his point, you misread what Kan said.

Oh, so he's just complaining we're getting a Squat/Votann mini for the 40th.

It does seem like an odd choice especially with it being the 40th anniversary.

Sounds very Warhammer to me.

Indeed, and that's what the comment was meaning.

For as long as I've been involved with GW related forums, there has been one constant from the "fanbase":
GW can do nothing right.

They choose to do a really cool model for a faction that was a reimagining of a faction that was removed from the game in such a way that it became a term used to describe the unceremonial removal of something from a game's lore and play, and the "fanbase" reaction is..."it's boring"/"it doesn't fit the gravitas of the event".

I personally am not planning on getting the model...but I don't play Leagues of Votann. I personally would rather have seen AdMech get their first commemorative model, but another LoV one is fine by me!

I'm delighted with her- she looks class. I was expecting a White Dwarf or Bugman model in Votann styling perhaps.

It is good that they are cementing the Votann into the 40k universe, I think its a good event model but yeah it doesn't really scream "40yrs of Warhammer" like a White Dwarf model would. Then again Squats were an iconic missing faction so they fit and I'm definitely not complaining.

But they've gone great lengths to assure everyone these aren't quite squats, but the midgets in necromunda are with different heritage.

I think it's fine? kinda depends on the pricing but it's a perfectly serviceable anniversary model and it's fitting that it's a Squat/Kin

Just glad it's not another goddamn marine. I'd take an average other faction model over another special Space Marine any day.

Would I have preferred something else? Sure. Another update of an RT model like the Imperial Marine would have been awesome, but this is fine. not outstanding, not jaw dropping, but a perfectly adequate model

They'd have been better off doing a Made To Order run of all of the previous limited anniversary/celebration models.

Great looking model, will be fun to convert up for my own purposes. I hope we see shield armed Einhyr with the new codex.

My main question is how we get?

Should be able to just order it via the webstore. Should be $40USD/single character in a box price for your locality.

Lovely model and with 3 head options. Must have in my collection and a great way to celebrate 40k.

Should look great has a nicely painted display mini too.

More of this please.

Solid sculpt, but I can not see how it is related to the 40th anniversary of Warhammer at all. Remember some years ago, when White Dwarf "turned 30" and they did a special model of the White Dwarf carried by Bugman and Gotrek? I mean, I was not expecting that level of awesome, but come on...
