Welcome to game 40 in the closing stages of our long-running campaign.

Previous games in this campaign can be found here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Gordy2000%27s_Battle_Reports

As the main Imperial force closes on the last line of defence for Hive Erd, combat patrols are sent to the flanks to provide security and root out any chaos ambushers.
One patrol covering the norther sector identifies and engages a renegade force in a heavily wooded area on the northern flank of the advance.

The imperials move into contact, but as the forces converge, all is not as it seems under the jungle canopy….

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Trooper Vert moved silently through the grove of palms, sweeping his hellgun across his line of advance.
Reaching the edge of the vegetation, he sunk to a prone position along with the rest of his squad.
From here they had a clear view across the clearing towards the expected enemy advance.

The team didn’t have to wait long before the tell-tale grind of treads announced the arrival of the renegades.
Vert looked out and saw a belch of smoke as an enemy Chimera manoeuvred into position on the far side of the clearing.
Chaos infantry fanned out in a line and began to move forward, unaware of the ambush on their flank.

Beneath his rebreather, Vert smiled. The renegades had no idea they were walking into a trap.

Just as his finger was moving to flick the safety on his weapon, a sixth sense caused him to crane his neck to the side. Was that movement?
His eyes didn’t seem to be able to make out what he was seeing.
Figures seemed to be moving beneath the canopy to his left, but they almost seemed ethereal as they slipped through the dappled light.

Then one stopped, just for an instant, and Vert saw the segmented armour and high helm.

‘Six one to Sunray’ he voxxed ‘All units stand to and prepare for contact from the East – we have company….’

The field of battle

Renegade forces move through the jungle

The Guard move into position to meet the enemy

Forwards in the name of the Dark Gods!

Both forces bring up light armour

Long range fire erupts for both sides

With a hum of anti-grav motors, the Eldar suddenly appear, striking at any human in range, regardless of their allegiance

All hell breaks loose as the battle descends into a series of brutal short-ranged fire fights as all three forces find themselves engaged

The Eldar are everywhere, attacking without mercy across the field

An avatar destroys a renegade Chimera

Whilst Wraithguard smoke a Sentinel

Renegade infantry counter-attack, charging into a Guardian squad

‘Send in the Plague Ogryn!’

The guardian squad falls to the frenzied cultists

While the Ogryn smash swoping hawks to the ground

‘Pour it on men!’ The imperial fire base puts up a relentless barrage of fire into anything that moves (and isn’t wearing an Imperial eagle)

Krieg guardsmen attack the grav-tanks with krak grenades in a desperate assault

As does a renegade Sentinel

Commandoes pile into Dire Avengers, who moments before cut down many of their comrades

A ranger squad hits the avengers in a perfect pincer movement

Wraithguard finish off renegade troops

More guardsmen move up in support

Heavy weapons teams are picked off

The Warithlord joins the fun

The Ogryn continue to smash

Until, after killing everything in reach, they are put down by the fusion guns of the Fire Dragons.

A special weapons team brings the pain for the Falcon

The Eldar attack is spent, their armour destroyed or crippled, whilst the renegade force is in tatters. The Imperials, with their fire support and armour largely intact, carry the day

Imperial Victory!
I think that’s the first 3-way game I’ve tried with 40K. It actually worked pretty well, although going last the Imperial side got one less turn than the other forces.
Turns out that was all they needed! The Eldar and Renegades beat each other up, allowing the Imperials to pick off wounded units while the fire base picked off heavier threats.

Next up, we move into the end-game phase as the Imperial Main Force reaches the last of the outer defence lines. Once those are breached, only the hive walls themselves remain
– along with the heaviest units the enemy possesses.

Yeah, good spot. This campaign went on so long we went through a number of editions. We agreed to stick with 8th for the whole thing. We ended up missing 9th altogether.

Next campaign has started with 10th!

Three-way games tend to go like that unless activations are partitioned in some alternating fashion, yeah. Looks fun regardless

#ConvertEverything blog with loyalist Death Guard in true and Epic scales. Also Titans and killer robots! C&C welcome.
