Out With the Old, In With the New -- Try new techniques, or break out whatever was bought/received as holiday gifts. Alternatively, dig deep in the pile of shame or the back of the painting station and tackle something that has been waiting for while. This can be more of a technical challenge, where the focus is on how you paint (trying something new) a/o meta (painting something actually new/old) or go more literal and paint a raw recruit a/o seasoned veteran. As always take inspiration from the topic and express it in you entry.

Let's Finish This! - Soldiers prepped for the big battle, two arch-enemies in a duel, a sniper ready for that one, perfect shot. In meta terms, we could tackle something we have been meaning to get around to, or else those last few models from a starter box.

Teamwork - Teamwork makes the dream work. Your entry should be either someone who supports others or a team of minis working together. Artillery spotters, master/blaster combos, wizards and familiars, or just a cohesive squad of minis for any system. Killteams or Warbands would be great choices. Also acceptable would be corporate middle management spewing buzz-phrases to try to boost efficiency.

In the Spotlight - Out of the shadows, into the light. Last month was all about the stealth and darkness, this month should be front and center. Bright swords flashing in the light, Banners unfurled. Models should be focal points, the center of attention among their peers. Champions, heros, flamboyant bards.

Poll will run for 2 days

Mostly, on my phone.

Going for teamwork as I suggested it but I'm happy all round.

I went with Teamwork, but I have vaguely acceptable possibilities for all of the themes, I think.

Voted ‘Out with old, In with the new’ …

I have no idea why

If I'm intending to try a new technique, but I end up using it on this months entry (from shadows) on a single mini, does that mean using the same technique on a squad of minis for "Out with the old" (assuming that wins) is no longer legitimate?

Sorry, we can't have Let's Finish This next month. I'm going to use up all the supply of Let's Finish This on my January entry.

The way I look at it, you remove novelty through practice. I usually end up with ideas of how to do better next time after I try something new. So to me a new technique still feels fresh even after using it for a while.

Something is still “new” until it’s normal. If you’ve tried something once or twice, but still are new/uncomfortable with it, I’d call it a new technique. Part of the whole reason for this competition is to push yourself to grow.

Looks like Out with the old, in with the new is our topic for next month. Let’s finish this will get it’s second chance in april.

But.. then there is less chance for "the real new year", "april showers" and "lets go ape..ril!"

I don’t make the rules here, I just enforce them. OK, that might not be entirely true, I guess I do kinda make the rules these days…

It’s been a long standing tradition that the second place entry in the poll gets a second chance in the next month. If it doesn’t make it at that point, it just get shelved. With March being a fixed month, the next poll will be in April, so it gets bumped to then.

In with the new? Alright, I suppose I'm going to have to buy new toy soldiers to paint.

Or something old.

Or both!

For me I’m going to try to do a little of each. I’ve got a TDA librarian I kitbashed a while ago, who is in the top 3 on my oldest minis in my primed pile. I also have the new guy from the Leviathan box. They will take the place of the old metal lib who occasionally hangs out with my old metal terminators.

No, that doesn't sound right. I'm pretty sure I have to buy new toy soldiers. The rules are the rules, you know.

I stand corrected.

If anyone gets in trouble for buying new minis for this comp from their wife/spouse/SO/bankers/cats/etc, feel free to throw me under the buss. I’ll accept the blame, but not financial responsibility. I’ve got my own plastic habit to support…

I don’t know how long your memory for these kind of things is Nevelon, but I do believe Helveine’s suggestion of “Let’s go Ape…ril” deserves a place in the poll for next year.

Oh.. I kindof conflated march and april.. only march being newyear month.. nvm (ostara, also year comes from jaru which is slavic for spring )

I think out with the old in with the new still allows for the idea I had..
Spoiler:

Yeah the retro ones, with the idea to put the rider beside it standing heroicly as if exhibiting his machine.

Added to the list. We’ll see what makes the cut for the final poll, I like to make sure we have a good spread.
