Subject: Questions about Sicaran turret assembly [resolved]

I am assembling my Sicarans. It’s a good kit - better than the other Marine tank kits, I think. But I want to make sure I haven’t screwed up.
1. The targeting array on the turret front seems to stick out more than it should. See the first pic below - there is a noticeable gap between the curved mantlet and the turret itself. Is this right?
2. The instructions say to assemble the side plates that mount the autocannon as per the first pic below. But it looks as though the circular ‘ring’ is meant to face outwards, as per the second pic below. There is even a hollow space for it on the guns. How did you guys do it?

The first pic is normal, the ‘targeter’ does project out for every sicaran that has one.
Admittedly I don’t understand the set one question. I’d follow the instructions, and maybe do a dry assembly if you’re worried.

It’s been ages since I built my one, but I can tell you I followed the instruction.
As morganfreeman said, in his velvety tones, maybe try a dry fit.
I think the raised ring is to help it locate into the turret. To the point I suspect the loose one is meant to be where the glued one is, with the sticky out tabs facing toward the rear of the turret?

For what it’s worth I put mine together with the rings facing into the tank, and everything went together fine.
The tolerances are pretty tight. I’d worry that if you faced them out the gun might not attach solidly. It’s only a mm or so, but not a lot of space to spare.

Thanks for the responses. I think the instructions are wrong, and the 'rings' are supposed to face out, to help locate the guns. It even shows them positioned like this when it comes to attaching the guns (not sure if the photo below is clear enough to see this). I think they're meant to ensure that the guns sit squarely against the turret.

Personally I'm convinced that the instructions are correct. The guns attach to a rod that runs through the turret that has hexagonal bits on the end. The gun will fit to that exactly.
If you are talking about the step 7J insert showing the round bit on the side plate, that is actually the end of the rod sticking out of the plate.
I guess you want to dry fit the entire gun and turret assembly you can try it the other way.

That insert in step 7J is what is bugging me. It looks to me as though it shows the ring around the end of the rod.. [edit: no, you’re right - it’s just the end of the rod]. And there is a space for the ring on the connecting face of the gun. But that part of the instructions also suggests that the mantlet should not have a gap under it, which seems to be wrong. Grrr - this is why I don't like following instructions.
[Edit: looks as though I misinterpreted the instructions. Thanks for the responses]
