It seems that there are credible rumours that a new edition of HH is in the works. I got this from HeresyHammer and SN.

1. Playtesting is underway.
2. There is no clear indication of a release date, but the new rulebook is being printed (although this seems to contradict the playtesting rumour). Maybe June 2025? That would be 3 years since release (wow - 3 years already).
3. It may involve a complete overhaul of the current rules. Or maybe just an overhaul of the legions rules. Apparently the development of Heresy 2.0 was hamstrung by Covid - hence the patchiness of some aspects of the rules.
4. They may limit unit upgrades to the options contained in the kit. I wonder about this, given that their current approach is to produce upgrade kits like heavy weapons.
5. Force organisation restrictions will be loosened.
6. Legacy units are gone completely. Or maybe not.
7. Rites of war will be dropped but specific legions and characters unlock special rules.

Also, the next boxed set will be Mk 2 Marines, SaturnineTerminators and possibly Saturnine Dreads. Salamanders v Iron Hands. Maybe December.

Thoughts?

well, if that's true then HH2 is probably the last GW game i'll play. the current rule system is the only reason why i'm even playing it.

that being said before I let this ruin my day... where did you source these rumors, senator?

Seems terribly wishlisty, and a direct contradiction between the first two claims is a pretty poor start.

Is there a further iteration of Heresy underway? Sure. This is GW. Are any of these claims otherwise accurate? Probably not.

Point 4. is weird for the reason you mentioned unless they think it is no longer cost effective for them to support it in the future.

Where are these credible rumors from / what makes them credible? Is this some random thing on Bolter & Chainsword, or has Valrak listed all this stuff off?

Regardless of proof of validity, it might be my own stubbornness but I'd be surprised if the major overhauls mentioned are factual. A big portion of the appeal of HH2.0 is that it works like "old" Warhammer did rather than Nu 8th+ Hammer, and therefor appeases the previous playerbase while also appealling to new-comers via being a different experience. Turning it into 8th/9th/10th edition but Oops-All-Marines would be an incredibly foolish move on GW's part.

As I said in the initial post, these rumours came from SN (one of the biggest Heresy sites on YouTube) and HeresyHammer (a smaller site that produces pretty decent content). I can’t vouch for their accuracy, but the people discussing them are deeply invested in HH and not interested in trashing it. They weren’t wishlisting by any means - they were expressing concern about what changes like this might mean.

The fact that some of these changes might, if true, undermine the appeal of HH to many players is not a reason why they won’t happen. Sadly, GW has already done this to WH40k.

Personally, I hope that we are at least 3 more years from a new edition, and that HH does not come to be dominated by what goes on at the most competitive level.

YouTube channels also need to drive engament and nothing gets people watching like a stream talking about rumours.
I'm not saying it's lying but it's basically a chat show segment talking about rumours, it's literally day time TV.

Besides you can tell its not real because it mentions Saturnine Terminators.

Yeah, as Gert said those are absolutely not "reliable" sources. They're probably the least reliable you can get; channels which thrive on engagement and know that sort of thing will rile up the community, start people talking, and get clicks. Especially given they're apparently not stating their sources.

I'd say this can be safely put to rest.

I swear we had this thread already, and the podcasts are just rehashing those same rumours.

We did. I think it's been 2-3 months since it made the rounds noticeably.

I can't believe I'm saying this:

Unless valrak says it, it's probably not true.

1. they're working on it
2. but it's already being printed, so how are they still working on it
3. everything might change, or maybe it doesn't
4. fearmongering
5. something of actual substance
6. if you play both sides, you can't be wrong
7. something of actual substance

oh and then the bit at the end is a rumor that's been going around for a while now

Also…let’s consider the purpose of Rites of War.

This is, predominantly, a Marine vs Marine game. And Marines by far have the widest selection of units to form our armies around.

Rites of War exist to provide the variety. Sure, due to wider rule interactions all are not equal, but they are still where we get the army variance from.

Ultramarines vs Ultramarines is one thing, and would lead to quite samey experiences. But if someone has a Rite of War focussed on Drop Pods, and the other on Armoured Vehicles? Those are going to be two radically different forces dukeing it out.

So I don’t believe they’d be dropped. At all. Reassessed and tweaked, sure thing. But not dropped.

Spoiler:

Thoughts?

1. That'll be the codexes or whatever being playtested then since....
2. The rulebook is already set in stone huh? Thats brave.
3. Aaaaaand its based on 10th edition.....
4. Prepare to have a spare models pile whether you had one before or not
5. Unbound is back? Nice. No, wait the other thing...
6. So this is GW teasing the community round to just stop using old models for the current ruleset?
7. Its absolutely GWs M.O. to just bin a core part of a game the fans enjoy so i absolutely beleive this one 100%. I mean, they did version 2.0 after all...

I recon theyll just expect you to choose a dedicated transport type from rhino, landraider, stormeagle, and drop pod and all units in the force have to be capable of deploying inside that DT. Then have some additional, ill thought out way of including vehicles regardless of what DT type is selected.

+1

Highly unlikely and i think even GW is aware of their custommer basis to some degree and it would literally go against what HH was advertised as- Basically target market would just disapear and not even GW is so out of touch

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.
