Not literally.
As an old guffer of 45 I’m getting a bit fed up of having my backside handed to me by my 13 year old son 😂
I’ve just jumped from Grey Knights (who since switching to 10th I haven’t won a single game) and defected to Chaos Knights.
I seem to be utterly unable to beat his genestealer army, his other armies I’m pretty on par with and most games can go either way. It’s always the same, Round 1, he’s basically vaporised off the board, turn two, same, and by three and four he just keeps bringing things back and I can’t cover objectives.
I can see that he just wins by sheer attrition, and that I simply seem to lay down enough shots.
Anyone got any thoughts on what I should be doing? Is there a particular method to beating horde armies with knights?

Well, Characters don't return, so the units should be weaker.
And they only come back on a 5+ (with +1 to the roll on the first two battle rounds) so he's looking at being significantly reduced if wiped.

Seems to be a sheer volume of boots on the ground, Karnivore is more than capable of ruining an entire infantry unit in one one sweep, but when the unit comes back in its entirety next turn, you’re no further forward. They seem to be incredibly frustrating to play against.

Given he’s 13, have you tried dipping him in TikToks, rotting his brian with “reality” teevee, then just like, lying, about the rules?

This thread has provided some hilarious spit takes already- I'm neither as funny or clever as the best of idiots, but JNA's advice is solid.
If he gets bonuses to resurrect in turns 1&2, hold some reserves til turn 3 when he needs 5's to rez.
It'll give you fewer shots in turn 1 & 2, so focus fire only on units with characters who won't rez when his units pass the easier 4+ roll. Even if you have to take risks, prioritize units with characters, beginning with whichever is the biggest pain in the ass, and working your way down.
Unless it's to claim an objective (and maybe not even then), any turn 1 or 2 shot on a unit without a character should be the absolute last resort, even when it would be convent.
I don't know if it'll work, but that's what I'd try.

Also, what missions are you playing?
If you can cover enough of the table, it’ll make the returning units very awkward to place properly for good usage.

Both GK and CKnights require specific builds to work in 10th. For GK you more or less have to run 4-6 NDKs and Cknights are unplayable outside of Walk the Dogs build. Cknights are the much weaker army of the two, but not a bad one. It is a very demanding army to play. A more an area control/denial thing, more then a straight up trade or kill army. GK are the better army right now, assuming the proper lists are played. It is not as hard, but very annoying (long turns, have to check and recheck ranges to everything making turns long etc) to play with and against. It can have the better results over all though., but it is an army where one miss placed move or using a CP at the wrong time, and suddenly the whole army goes up in flames.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain. |

Thanks for the replies, I should probably point out I’m a bit of a beer and peanuts player, this is my penance as my lad does 40K instead of football, and this is better than standing on a goal line in the rain 👌
Battles tend to be run as a Desecrator, three dogs and some nurglings for a bit of denial. If we bump to 2000 I suspect I’d just double the dogs and nurglings and add a Rampager (I like close combat, hence the Grey Knights being dropped as they’re not nearly as savage as they used to be in 9th).
In fairness, he has time to study it properly so he really ought to beat me 😂 Automatically Appended Next Post: Karol wrote:Both GK and CKnights require specific builds to work in 10th.
I’m going to quote this point specifically because I should confess to playing CK simply because I think they look good in the candy red to match my Tesla. That’s pretty much why I picked them, and I don’t have the memory for using dozens of units and rules.

That's Karol, who's the one who thinks people need warhammer coaches to play properly. His outlook on 40k is highly competitive/tournament minded, and unlikely to be of any help to you here.

I don't want the best army, just one that isn't an exercise in picking up my models by turn 3.

If I had 100 + Drukhari kits all in plastic to choose from, or 100 + Sisters kits, I think I'd be more likely to be receptive to Space Marine player's complaints about anything.

I definitely err on the side of “rule of cool”, we do flaunt the rules a bit to make games interesting (which is why I get battered at tournaments).
I also can’t possibly remember the rules as he plays four different armies and I just don’t retain that much information in my old age 😂
