Scenario: Space Marines at a random combat zone have a Primarch, that is NOT of their chapter, show up and start barking orders. Do they fall in line with gusto? Do it, but with a "whatever" subtext, something else? Obviously, reactions will be different depending on which chapter and which Primarch we are talking about.

Any loyalist chapter would fall in line with Lion or Roboute. As well as having general authority in the military structure, Primarchs are also supposed to be almost unnaturally charismatic by design. They're also recognised as the greatest military minds in the Imperium, so whichever way you look at it, any chapter is likely to take orders from a Primarch as if they came for the Emperor himself.

The Chaos Primarchs are a little different. There's less discipline in Chaos, in general, and most Chaos followers owe allegiance to their god first, so Mortarion isn't going to be able to command Thousand Sons. It's more likely he'd be attacked.
