In the grim darkness of my teenage years, there was only heavy metal and classic art. Armed thus with a budding love of the baroque and some Italian bangers, I experimented with browns, reds and bone to create a fleet of my own with a naming scheme straight out of Rhapsody of Fire. Now, some 15 years later, it's time to continue the project and attack that mountain of unpainted things. Funnily enough, BFG ships are very zen to paint between all the more conversion-intensive projects.

All began with some new torpedo markers, created in a spur of the moment from AI Ork wingbombs while prepping for a game...



The first proper additions to Autumn Twilight's battlefleet followed soon after. Two Dauntless light cruisers Deadly Omen and Raging Starfire, escorted by Silent Dream, a squadron of Cobra torpedo boats and In Tenebris, a Falchion gunboat. Painted while chatting and helping at a university club's freshman event.






With that spark lit, another batch of BFG happened next week. All painted in a day without too pronounced detailing. Vis Divina and two escort squadrons, Tears of Pain and Winter's Rain.

Finally got around to taking a proper picture of the fleet. Battlegroup Rhapsody of Fire in its eternal glory.

This year's new additions at the front (bases with red clouds), everything else painted somewhere around 2009 as a teenager with paints now long gone from the shelves. There's about as much stuff still waiting for their turn in the painting queue.

Thanks, Magos. There's plenty of prints like italianmoose's or third party stuff like Vanguard Minis and Battlefleet Galaxy out there, even if getting these originals is a bit of a goose chase

Fresh from the void-docks today, painted over two days: cruisers Abyss of Pain, Echoes of Tragedy & Unholy Warcry, light cruisers Crystal Moonlight & Flash of the Blade as well as the escort squadron In Tenebris sail out.

Excellent as always and the amount of detail work on each ship is incredible. They really are individual works of art.

Epic painting! Love the stars and galaxies on the stands. Adding names of the ships on parchments is vey clever and creative. On a sidenote, how do you manage to show the photo's so large in your thread?

When you upload images on Dakka's gallery and open them there, there's a drop-down menu on the right side. You can copy a forum link to the image and set the size you want: small, medium or original. I usually take my photos at 6k x 4k pixels and edit them down to 2k pixels wide for viewing like this.

Found some Eldar in the boxes and wanted to branch out from my regular Zorn palette a bit with some psychedelic thermal synthwave shenanigans. The first attempt on the Aconites failed, as there just was no kick to it. Then I went and bought a couple of Vallejo's fluo paints and most importantly, finally some magenta. With that, the pair of Hellebores got a whole new vibe.
