Hi. Considering buying in to LOTR wargame and I see there is a new Edoras Box out.

My question is though, is the older Start Box (Battle of Osgiliath) still valid and up to date rules?

I am not sure what to do, in some ways id like the newer launch box but I think the older Osgiliath box is a bit more iconic(orcs v Gondor with Faramir) rather than the new War of the Rohirimm which is presumably set in the past, like the film is?

Thanks for any info/advice

The Battle for Edoras is the herald of a new edition, so the Osgiliath box contains a now defunct rulebook. If you want to play the up-to-date rules you'll need to get the Edoras box w/appropriate Army Book/s.

The Osgiliath box is actually a great set and gives you a good starting place for both Gondor and Mordor by offering some key heroes and a solid core of warriors. So if neither Rohan or Dunland tickles your fancy, then I'd say grab the Osgiliath box, flog the old rulebook to recoup some cash and just buy the new rulebook/armybook by themselves and go from there.
